In reply to: If this forum doesn't work ?Rich: Uploading that file has created a change. I now get the following when hitting the admin.php page, or any other page in the fn folder:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: If this forum doesn't work ?Rich. No, I haven’t moved the site at all. It worked fine for a long time and suddenly didn’t. I can’t put my finger on what might have triggered it, but there was no move. There was no change of theme until after the trouble began. I did also switch off all plugins.
I’m using FileZilla but, when you mentioned it, I checked and Blade doesn’t show an htaccess file either.
The odd thing is that I can still post with Windows Live Writer so there is some glimmer of life in there somewhere.

In reply to: If this forum doesn't work ?thisisedie: When Ihit this page I get an error: https://allanjackson.co.za/fn/wp-admin/
Rich: WP-admin is still in the same place. I’m not that familiar with Linux hosting but I assume the .htaccess should be in the site root. I have FTP access and don’t see it there. Any hints about where else to look.

In reply to: If this forum doesn't work ?A new WordPress installation has been uploaded but the problem persists.
Is there any way of escalating this matter to the developers?

In reply to: If this forum doesn't work ?@ Rich: By split posts I meant that the story which are not shown in full on the home page, but ones with a ‘read more’ link to the whole story on another page.
@ Daisy: The links on the home page are disabled as a result of my shutting down all in the plugins, in case one of them was causing the problem.
Freelance: The blog has worked in the past but broke a month or two ago. I’m pretty sure that everything is in the right place but I am now trying to refresh the installation again. I suppose something could have garbled on the last re-install.

In reply to: WP Down !! Any suggestions? Thanks t-p. You gave me this advice in my last post and, as reported in this one, I did follow those steps (except the PHP memory one, because the blog is working and accepting posts, I just can’t sign in). I also reset to the default theme.
There is something else going on and I don’t know enough about the sign-on process to diagnose the problem. The error message below seems to say that it calling a file that doesn’t exist. Is the reference to this file stored somewhere in the database?

In reply to: Add post manuallyThis is no longer an issue. I find I can add posts with Windows Live Writer. Can’t edit them, but that’s another story…

In reply to: Dashboard unavailableMore developments.
The dashboard accessibility problem is still there but I find I can now add posts with Windows Live Writer (it previously refused) including uploading images but, of course, there is no way to edit anything. The 2010 theme I switched to earlier tonight reports that I am signed-in.

In reply to: Can not log in on the admin siteI have just found instructions on how to reset your theme using phpmyadmin. I tried them and they work for me:

In reply to: Dashboard unavailableThis is driving me crazy !! The admin section of my blog is still unreachable.
t-p: I can’t find a memory setting in 3.01’s wp-settings.php file. Has this changed from the instructions you gave me above?
I’m still getting the error outlined in the first message, above, in spite of the fact that I have now reset all my plugins using the instructions found here:
https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHPI have also switched my theme to 2010 using the instructions found here:
https://wordpress.shadowlantern.com/2009/11/change-wordpress-theme-in-phpmyadmin/And, of course, as I mentioned, I have done a complete reinstall of WordPress 3.0.1. I have two other blogs using the same database, and they work fine.
Still no joy. Can anyone Pleeeze help or advise if I can escalate the problem to the WordPress team.

In reply to: Dashboard unavailableI get a blank (white) screen when renaming my theme folder although the blog title appears in the browser title bar. Have gone back to my set theme for the time being; at least the blog shows.
I will try the memory hint when I get back from work later on.
Thanks very much.

In reply to: Dashboard unavailable@ t-p.
I did have a number of plugins installed but the instructions I found said to get round that by renaming the plugins folder to plugins.hold and creating a new empty plugins folder so that WP would not load them.

In reply to: get textThanks Rev. I had tried it but it offers little in the way of layout customisation and mangles the text if you cut and paste from the PDF,
This is frustrating !!!
