  • as a minor user of wordpress, I appreciate evry one’s concerns about advancing the cause with the new default theme BUT as far as I am concerned, the default theme needs to work in IE8, which it does not at present. half the users on the site I maintain are IE8 users, like it or not and you need to build sites for your users, not for advanced developers of wordpress and Html and CSS.

so until twentytwelve is fixed and works in IE8, I will ignore it, I will check out how it works but as far as I am concerned, it is not usable. nice effort and result but totally unusable.

I looked at respond.js before, BUT it does not work locally in IE8, it must be on an online server to work. makes local testing difficult

IE8 is far from dead, on the web site I maintain, over 50% of the IE users use IE8 (IE9 41%), so this is not a trivial problem as far as I am concerned. I like the new theme BUT cannot use it on my web site unless the IE8 menu situation is fixable.

if twentytwelve were a premium theme sold in some marketplace, I could understand them not fixing this for IE8, but this is the new default theme for wordpress, which should work in most of the browsers in use today. and I would think IE8 is still fairly common, especially if you do not have windows 7+ (which I don’t have).

I see the online preview shows OK, perhaps I am being caught by the local responsive problem and where the online code works as designed but the code does not work locally

wpsquare.com has a demo version of twentytwelve, and a download version if you cannot wait for www.ads-software.com

considering that twentytwelve is supposed to be responsive, I sure don’t like how it works with IE8

re-installing wordpress will not install the twentytwelve theme.

twentytwelve was announced for wordpress.com today but is not yet available in www.ads-software.com, apparently it should be made available shortly, whatever that means

yes, i am using a theme called Notepad. as it worked out, there was no problem with that theme.

the problem I was having has been resolved. As I said before, I deleted the wp-admin and wp-includes folders and reloaded manually, as well, I cleaned up the extraneous files in wp-content. not sure if I did the DB upgrade manually but if needed, it is very easy, just call in the upgrade.php file from wp-admin.

good luck everyone, will definitely wait for a bit before installing the next upgrade, and will probably do it manually next time as well.

got my problem with the wp-admin login not working fixed. I was able to see my site OK but could not login using wp-admin.

I had to delete all of the files and folders in the wp-admin folder online, and then copied them from a new version of the 3.4 download. tried logging onto my site through wp-admin and it is now working OK, must have had some files corrupted from the update. not really sure but nice to get this resolved.

so when esmi says re-load all files and folders in wp-admin and wp-includes, I would suggest you delete all files from these folders so that only the new 3.4 files will be reloaded into these folders.

can now access the web site OK https://ve3gam.webqth.com but not wp-admin. d/led 3.4 and FTP loaded up all of the contents of wp-admin and wp-includes but not wp-content.

this is the error I get when I try to go to wp-admin

Warning: require_once(/home/ve3gam7/public_html/wp-admin/wp-includes/load.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/ve3gam7/public_html/wp-admin/wp-load.php on line 48

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/ve3gam7/public_html/wp-admin/wp-includes/load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/ve3gam7/public_html/wp-admin/wp-load.php on line 48

any suggestions on what I need to do to correct this so that I can use wp-admin? part way back but not all the way
