In reply to: My wordpress home page doesnt show changesQuote from the Quick Cache FAQ:
EMERGENCY: If all else fails, how can I remove Quick Cache?
Ordinarily you can just deactivate Quick Cache from the plugins menu in WordPress. However, if you’re having a more serious issue, please follow the instructions here.
Log into your site via FTP; perhaps using FileZilla.
Delete this file: /wp-content/advanced-cache.php
Delete this directory: /wp-content/plugins/quick-cache/
Remove this line from your /wp-config.php file: define(‘WP_CACHE’, TRUE);Quick Cache is now completely uninstalled and you can start fresh ??
It might help ??

In reply to: Editing Posts & Pages HelpRachel,
It’s not really that important what we see in the editor, belive me. What I mean is that in “text mode” lines doesn’t really matter but in visual mode by pressing enter you just create a new paragraph. It’s quite the same like in any text editor (eg. MS Word etc).
In other words: what we see can be sometimes a little tricky ?? Just jack out if it looks good on the page and not in the editor. If you think that the published post (on the frontend – seen by readers) doesn’t look good then just try to play with the css style of the theme that you’re using for your WordPress ??
Good luck!

In reply to: Bilingual Webside for NPORedrhino2014,
With qT you’ll can manually translate posts (or other content) by yourself or you can order payed transcription directly from wp dashboard.
Currently WPML is probably the best solution available on the market, however it’s not free. qTranslate is free but if you’re afraid of troubles that it may (or may not…) couse there are some other free plugins – just search the repository, eg. https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/search.php?q=multilingual.
I’m not trying to promote qTranslate, it’s just the only one solution (except WPML) that i’ve ever used. I’ve never experienced any problems with it but yes, the configuration/installation/geting it to work sometimes might be a little tricky.
Anyway, just try to browse through plugins and you’ll for sure find something free and what’ll meet your criteria ??

In reply to: Bilingual Webside for NPOIt will be really much simpler using plugin. Try https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/qtranslate/ – it’s free, I used it a few times and it just works.
Of course, you need to write the content in both languages by yourself but the plugin will translate the theme (if the theme itself is properly designed) and will give you the alternate editor fields in your dashboard to publish the content in many languages at the same time.
Luca,
Good question… Judging strictly by SEO factors I would change “+” to “plus”. On the other hand – it depends if the name is somehow strongly related to a brand.
IMHO, if it IS possible (once again – that’s only from the SEO point of view) “STEMplusD” could be better than “STEM+D”. At least for Google ??
Yet, should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask – i’ll be happy to help as far as I’m able.

In reply to: Header image not centeringCasins
In your theme style (style.css) probably around line 233 you’ve got styled #header div. Setting background properties to “center top” is absolutely ok and it in fact does work – the background image is centered!
Yet, hence that the entire #header is not centered. It’s of fixed width (982px) and it naturally flows to the left.
The solution:
Add
margin: 0 auto;
to the #header style in the style.css file and the entire header will be properly centered.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Blank screen on wp-admin.phpBefore the “blank page” did you perform any WordPress or plugin or theme upgrade?
Such behaviour usually means that either one of the plugins or the entire theme is not entirely compatible with the version of WordPress used…

In reply to: Are tracking codes tranferred when template is changed? There are 4 most likely ways the tracking codes are placed:
1. directly in theme files – which isn’t good and doesn’t meet “good pratices” – in this case the tracking code will not be transfered
2. through the admin dashboard but within theme config – in this case the tracking code will not be transfered
3. through the admin dashboard but theme is based on some kind of framework which has a place in its config to add tracking coded – in this case tracking code will not be trasfered either unless the new theme uses the same framework: then the tracking code sometimes might be transfered
4. via some kind of plugin – then you probably don’t have to worry about it.
STEMD,
I guess it should but I’m not entirely sure. Anyway it’s always good to identify other important phrases/keywords that are relevant to what you are doing.
From what’s said on your “about” page I can see STEM+D is mainly about modern design and technology and industry standards in design. That being said, most of the visitors that will ever come to the site will probably find it by searching for phrases related to forementioned design – which is absolutely good.
As long as you don’t run company that has a largely recognizable brand, depending only on “brand search” isn’t quite a good way to gain any traffic on site. What I would do in such a situation would be:
1. Put a little seo work for “brand” (stem+d) but not too much
2. Promote the brand (along with its domain) extensively on- and offline like setting-up e-mail, blog and forum signatures and printing some kind of “slogan” along with the brand name and its web address on leaflets or catalogues (if you ever print them) and business cards
3. Put a lot, lot of seo work for other phrases/keywords related to the main content of your siteAs it comes to SEO this is how it would work:
People search for some “design-related” content -> they find your site -> they visit it -> they like it or they like a particular content -> some of them promote it (make sure there’s plenty of easy ways to promote the content via social networks) -> other people see it -> some of them like it -> … it goe’s on like that.
After all, sometime in a future people start to recognize the brand, start to like it, talk about it and that’s the moment when everything starts to work like a charm.
For sure, there’s a lot of factors you need to care for and a lot of things that may go wrong. That means a lot of knowledge to gain and a lot of work to be done but I do belive it’s the best way. And it is certainly worth it! ??
Adam
All right, I didn’t get what you mean exactly at first. Although everything I said before remains still valid I must say that you’re probably thinking right!
Well, it’s quite an unfortunate case as the “+” sign is a basic operator used by Google. When you type stem+d it does actually search – just like you say – for stem and d.
Try this phrase for example: “stem+d home” (put the phrase in search field within quotation marks) and you’ll find your site indexed by Google.
So, the question is: is there any workaround this problem other than changing the name of your site? In my opinion yes, there is. However it’ll take quite a lot of work and time. We’re back on SEO – build content, build links, be patient and wait.
I might be wrong of course but I cant see any other way…
Adam
Hi there,
You shoudn’t rather worry about this difference between site name and domain name. It probably has nothing to do. I’d rather say just be patient and also try to constantly (but not too massively) fill up your website with some good, valuable content. And by “valuable” I mean things that will be of some help for your visitors/readers.
Sometimes it can take quite a long time for Google to properly index and – as I call it – “understand” the website. Also you should probably dive a little into the SEO topics.
Good luck!

The only way to get around it is to contact the admin of your hosting or just change hosting provider.

In reply to: Wierd box on the right? You’ve got this div with “bodychild” id. It’s width is set to 90% but at the same time it’s min-width and max-width are set to 100%. If you’d simply remove min-width setting from your css, everything will work fine.
