Thanks for the detailed instructions… turns out it is a conflict with the datafeedr plugin, so I have directed this problem to their support…

I am now using it on Virtual Multi Blogs too – no problem at all ??

Sorry, I was not being particularly clear ??

As I am not using the WordPress MU mode of WordPress W3 Total Cache does not automatically detect that is should be in Network mode…

So my question should have been: “Is there a way to turn on network mode in W3 Total Cache without modifying the code?”
