    Hi Kevin,

I’ve obtained a copy of Thesis and added compatibility for it in the latest version of Tailor (1.3.0), along with a lot of other updates! Can you take a look and see if it works for you too?

    Cheers,
    Andrew.

Hi Ryan – that is actually intentional. The settings page for the plugin allows you to specify the user roles that can “Tailor” pages. I’ve updated the default value for this setting so that editors, authors and contributors (as well as administrators) can Tailor pages out-of-the-box.

I’m certainly happy to reconsider how this is handled, although it should be possible for administrators to easily manage who has access to Tailor and who does not without having to add custom code to alter user permissions.

    Hi Felix,

Jetpack’s portfolio/project post type has been pointed out to me before and am interested to add support for it in an upcoming release. Keep an eye out for that!

Generally speaking, you’re right: we cannot know up front what attributes a custom post will have nor what display format makes sense for them. For that reason, I would suggest creating a simple extension for Tailor to fully support whatever custom post type you need (or let me know and if there’s sufficient interest I can built one myself).

If your custom post has all (or most of) the same attributes as a standard post, I would question why it is a custom post in the first place. Tailor allows you to select categories and/or tags to display, so if your custom post is similar in nature to a standard post you could create a category for whatever it is you’re wanting to display and then tweak the look and feel using the tool.

Whatever the case, do let me know as I’m very interested to learn more about how people are using Tailor (or how they would like to in the future)!

    Cheers,
    Andrew.

Reviews like this really make my day. Thanks!

Great to hear that you’re already getting started with extensions. This plugin is built for people like you so that you can deliver a simple, powerful method of layout creation to your customers (or yourself!). By providing a solid base and allowing people to build on/extend that to suit their needs, the hope is that they’ll have something that looks and feels like a part of WordPress without the distraction and confusion that comes with hundreds of worthless options, elements and “features” in the core plugin itself.

I hope you continue to enjoy using it and am excited to see what you and others do with it!

    Hi Ryan,

The “Tailor this..” link should appear automatically assuming the plugin is activated and pages are supported (assuming it’s a page you’re trying to Tailor) in the admin settings. Links should appear in both the “action menu” (I think that’s what it’s called) in the page list and the Admin Bar.

Below are screenshots of the admin settings, action menu and Admin Bar links, respectively:

If it’s a clean install of WordPress, with no other plugins installed and running the latest version of Tailor there’s no reason why these links shouldn’t be showing. I’d suggest starting there and then re-enabling any custom plugins or code that you have to see what, if anything, is causing the problem. We can then address any plugin conflicts that exist.

Hope that helps. Let me know how you get on ??

    Andrew.

Thanks for the suggestions, Luis! To take them in order:

    1. I am certainly open to having the “Tailor this..” link outside of the Admin Bar. I hesitate to do so given that users can begin Tailoring pages from the front end too, and in that context I think it makes sense to have it up there alongside the “Edit page” link. What are your thoughts on this use case?

    2. I agree with this suggestion, though this is a little difficult to achieve in practice. One of the benefits of Tailor is that it doesn’t replace your content with shortcodes; only elements that are dynamic (like recent posts) and should change between page saves are saved as shortcodes. For this reason, you cannot easily enqueue scripts based on whether a carousel exists on the page as this would typically be done in a shortcode, which aren’t used for carousels. As I see it, there are a couple of potential solutions: 1) use a shortcode for the carousel element and other static elements like Gallery which have a carousel layout option or 2) store some meta data against the post containing the script dependencies and enqueue them based on that. Again, I’d love to get your thoughts on this.

    3. I am also open minded about using Tailor in different contexts. With respect to your ACF proposal, could you give me a brief description of how you’d see that working?

    Thanks again!
    Andrew.

Crazy huh? Funny thing is it would probably get more attention if I tried to sell it. Enjoy!

Thanks for the positive feedback and suggestions, Luis! Interaction with, and ideas from, people like you is how we will make the plugin even better!

Interesting. Do other pages work? Are you able to see the “Tailor this Page” on the page list (in the actions menu against each page)?

Hi Kevin, good to hear Genesis is working. I was unsure what to think about that give it works for me. I will try to test on Thesis and see if I can reproduce (and fix) the issue.

Hi Ryan, what role/permissions does your user have and which version of Tailor are you using? I’m guessing this is custom post type..

Great. Is that a workable solution for you? I’m hesitant to hardcode a workaround when we can instead configure Super Cache to not cause problems for logged in users.

@eagleeye101 – Your problem is likely to be different to Kevin’s then. Which browser and version of Tailor are you using?
