It doesn’t work in Chrome or Firefox, it works fine in Opera. My ISP is 34sp.com.

Thank you for thinking about this and the answer is 128 mb Php with 34sp.com. However it now seems to be a problem just with one PC, and my linux netbook works fine on the same networks. I’ve cleared the browser caches, tried 5 browsers including a newly-downloaded one, release/renew/flushed the PC dns; and logging in and/or editing still doesn’t work.

This does not seem to be a WordPress problem, but I do wonder what is different when I eg press “update” and it can’t connect to the server, than when I just load a page to read it routinely, and all works OK.

Please can you explain what I don’t get without a plugin? Why did the other developer say not to use one and do the coding instead? What if I don’t do either? All this is what I need to understand.

Dear Jackie,

Yes, you are right. I had tried de-activating Super Cache without success. Following your post I re-activated W3 Total Cache. This found and cleaned up one of the elements from the removal instructions [I’d not been aware of those before], and after that all is well.

In the end I stayed with W3. It is harder to set up than Supercache, but gives much better results than Supercache on webpagetest, and feels so much more robust.

Thanks guys, good information. I’d sort of guessed there must be something like gtmetrix but didn’t know what it was – it is excellent!

And Andrew – I don’t know exactly what P3 is measuring. This all comes about because I get some kind of not-great score in Google Webmaster Tools > Other resources > pagespeed insights. I’ll try the suggestions y’all have given and may be back here if they don’t work.

https://www.mysite.co.uk/ in all cases.

It is presumably very simple to tweak what you wrote, and I did try, not entirely successful as I am now on hold to tech support at my host to tell them I crashed the server!!

That’s good, many thanks. I tried both of those and I now understand how the different levels of users give the functionality I need.

I have also had very bad experiences with Fashosts support. I have just joined up with 34SP and while it is early days, they do look good and have good reviews on some review sites.

That’s good – can you tell me how to do that?
