I agree it is strange. However I have ruled out issues with the theme or other plugins. On my system MailPoet works with PHP 5.6 and not with PHP 7

If there are any suggestions for other things to look for or to try, I am happy to help investigate

I have just tried this plugin using 2.6.19 and I confirm it doesn’t work. A test user was tracked on opening the email generated by a WP post. I’m not sure if it was from the image on the post or something else.

It did say 4.2.1 on the ‘Updates’ tab but I wasn’t sure if that was definitive because the system came out of maintenance mode before starting to upgrade the database.

Anyway I tried a manual re-install of 4.2.1 and that seems to have worked, so problem over. Thanks for your help.

Just as a comment, I find the update process of WordPress its worst ‘feature’. It just seems to be a process of shutting my eyes, crossing my fingers, and hoping everything goes well. There doens’t seem to be any easy way of testing an update, or of easily backing out an update if something goes wrong. The team here do heroic efforts to help people out when there are problems, but there really should be a better model.

I won’t go the premium route as my system is working reasonably (though not yet perfectly), though I have bought you a few beers which I hope will go towards your working with the Avada theme.
Covering some points of discussion:
I am on 1.1.4 of your plugin as well as current WooCommerce (2.1.9) and Avada (3.4.3). I also implemented a fix from Avada which replaces their copy of review-order.php
The Paypal Express button is visible in the Checkout (which is why I can carry on), but not in the Cart window. Ideally I would like to avoid the Checkout page completely.
I tried deactivating all plugins except Paypal for WooCommerce and WooCommerce itself, but the problem still occurs.
I have done some basic child themes (usually modifying styles) but don’t know how to delete things e.g. from woo-config.php. In any case I haven’t had to implement that fix as I still need their checkout button visible.
I have a second minor issue, which is that the details back from Paypal do not appear on the Review Order page before the order is finally placed. Again this is not a show-stopper for me, but I wanted you to know in case someone else has a similar problem that it is not unique. I have raised this one with Avada.
Finally, if you do create a version tuned for Avada, I would be happy to be a beta tester!

I can understand how to take a copy of my files into another directory folder, so that I can quickly restore them.

How do I do a backup of the database? The so-called simple instructions begin with the cryptic comment “On your main control panel for cPanel…”. Even if I take a backup, I can’t find instructions for how to do a full restore. As a minimum I would like to test that I can restore the DB before starting the upgrade.

My hosting restriction is 100 names per email and no more than 300 names in five minutes, which is why I restrict the number of recipients per email to 80. I’m well inside the hosting limit.

I suspect I have the bug you mentioned earlier in this post, or for some reason the restriction on the settings page is being ignored.

I’ve got a limit of 80 and about 130 public subscribers. Is there any way of telling who is receiving emails and who isn’t?

Re the vouchers, your concern is why I said the durations might get complex, as some people might want up to 100% discount. It’s a suggestion anyway. This situation must be really frustrating

I ordered service with an annual subscription along with the product, though I would need to check what I actually paid for so far.
As a suggetion, one way to fix this for people with long term subscriptions could be to use coupons on the new site – though the numbers and durations might get complex.
I’ve got 8.5 working with WP 3.5 (after making the edit to remove html from the email title) so I’m happy to wait until you hear more from WPPlugins.

Renaming .htaccess solved the problem, and after some trial and error I managed to identify which block in .htaccess caused my problem. I’m going to open a separate post to discuss it

I use Better WP Security instead of Bullet Proof Security, and that also modifies .htaccess Do you have any suggestions how to check if the .htaccess changes are the cause of the problem?

try switching on the the java debug. I did this and it fixed the missing tools on the New Post page

I had the same problem and followed Drew’s advice. The problem went away when the debug text was added to wp-config.php, and returned when I removed the debug text.
