In reply to: [Uji Countdown] Uji Countdown – Setting it to a time zoneA ‘fix’ for Wil is a ‘break’ for me. I hope the new version offers a choice of which timing mechanism to employ. That would meet everyone’s needs.

In reply to: [Uji Countdown] Uji Countdown – Setting it to a time zoneHi Will,
Thanks for your answer. Actually, I just tested the plugin. I’m in Japan and I got on Skype with someone in the States. Their countdown clock was indeed 13 hours behind mine.
I suppose it depends on what you want out of the plugin. For us, this is perfect, as we want the clock to expire at midnight on a certain day for all people (their own time), regardless of where they are.

In reply to: [Uji Countdown] Uji Countdown – Setting it to a time zoneI came to this thread because I want to know how the countdown is displayed across time zones around the world.
If I set the timer to expire at 18:00 EST, and it is currently 12:00 EST, then on my display I see 6 hours remaining on the clock.
What I want to know is: will someone in California see 9 hours remaining or 6 hours remaining? That is, is the 18:00 deadline set according to the my time zone setting, the setting of the server, or the setting of the end user (where ever he or she may be the in world)?
Hi Ravan, thank you so much for responding. However, I’m not using images, but rather text only. I can’t change the size of the box, and there is no padding surrounding the text – it pushes right up against the edges of the box. Any ideas?

In reply to: Displaying Other LanguagesI finally found the source of the issue: fantastico. It was installing wordpress using the default collation at the server level: latin_swedish_ci. I deleted the site and database (since it was a new install anyway) and installed it manually, setting the database collation to utf8_general_ci *before* installing wordpress. After that, Japanese characters showed up just fine.
I also found out that there is a script you can run to convert a database to UTF8: https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/website/databases/how-to-convert-a-database-to-utf-8

In reply to: Displaying Other LanguagesDoes anybody know how to do this? I see instructions on this site for how to change the admin display to another language, but how to get posts to display in other languages is not clear.
In addition to what I wrote above, I also created a languages folder in wp-content and uploaded the ja.mo file, to see if WP would automatically draw up it to display Japanese characters, but it didn’t help.
I also changed collation of my SQL database tables in phpmyadmin to utf8, but that doesn’t help either.
Nothing I do seems to help! What am I missing?
Please help me.

In reply to: no visual editor when writing !Actually, I’m realizing that the WYSIWYG editor is *not* working fine in Safari (even though the buttons appear) suggesting that there is a wordpress problem, not a browser issue.
How do I solve this?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: no visual editor when writing !I’ve tried just about everything in this thread but simply cannot get the editor buttons to show up on Firefox (but they do show up on Safari). I’m using version 2.2.3 on a Mac.
The fact that they work fine on Safari (3.0.4) but not on Firefox (2.0.0.12) suggests to me that it is a browser compatibility issue. But why would it not work on Firefox?
What should I do to fix the problem? I know I could upgrade to the latest wp version, but I’ve put so much effort into my current theme (which is incompatible with 2.3.3) recently that I want to hold off on having to change themes for a while.
Any ideas would be warmly appreciated.

In reply to: New Theme : Automatic Midnight v0.5Very cool theme! But…..I get the very same sidebar error – under the “Popular” heading – that Steve (Tomcatuk) got:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/friendsw/public_html/smendoza/wp-content/themes/automaticmidnight/sidebar.php on line 29
None of the links show.
I’m running version 1.0 on WP 2.0. Any ideas on how to fix this?
