Okay, so I (think) it is sorted.
– Turned off the firewall in WPSecurity Plugin
– Turned off the brute force and IP restrictions in S2member (Restriction options)
– Checked the .htaccess in route folder and in s2-memberfiles/ folder and neither had execute permissions. Updated them to have execute permission.Seems to have fixed it, will check it again and see.
I’ve disabled all themes and plugins.
Still does it… hence I am asking other users to check.
I don’t think you understand…
– When a user registers they can easily know its wordpress and s2member plugin from the download link
– They can easily know the file directory (wp-content/plugins/s2member-files/any-ccap-files/xx.zip
This means they can share the link with unlimited access to any non-user or user.
KTS!
Different audiences, different forum.
I have read the instructions.
Read my post again.
The file is in the protected directory but can still be accessed publicly. If I use the /?s2member_file_download=example-file.zip it protects the file from non-members (i.e. public) but the actual link /s2member-files/example-file.zip is accessible by everyone.
Both things you referenced to do not solve this issue.
KTS; I do not want to offend you. We will never agree; hence I am giving my opinion. With any plugin there are advantages and disadvantages.
Along with their virtually impossible 30 day refund policy this plugin is far too technical for the average user; you are clearly not the average user!
KTS915 – you hit the nail on the head; “run several complicated sites”
That’s the very thing, this is a dream for highly experienced people with plenty of time. For myself I prefer a different layout.
There is no denying the features are rich, but this plugin is living off past glory and ranks pretty low amongst the newer ones (that are above a year old e.g. Memberpress.
S2member as with all commercial plugins gave a great sales pitch, on asking for support I am greeted with a lesson in business capacity! !?!?
Whether free or not; the plugin is highly outdated. For example you cannot even protect an image (but you can protect the text :/) without having to access FTP, hard code back into WP. Why not integrate to the media upload? Because its time consuming and costly coding. So instead we settle for a free plug in that is highly flawed.
I just warn those that do not have time (I mean hours on hours, not just a few hours) will find themselves having to problem solve a lot and read countless unanswered posts on their now closed forum.
Wow, I’ve looked at more than 9 reviews in depth including Chris’s review of your plugin and have to say you have the same attitude and enthusiasm as a post I read 3 years ago for this plug in (found via Google) about free membership approval, something I desperately need as a feature.
I hope I have good luck with this one ??

In reply to: [Membership Plugin - Restrict Content] nice idea, MAJOR FLAWI was going to try this plugin after reading Chris’s multiple reviews of so many plugins, but have to say Pippin he wasn’t blackmailing you he just wanted a solution for something he paid for and coincidently I needed that feature too!
