I have disabled all plugins and also tried StoreFront theme with the same issue.

Is there a way to see what is causing the issue one the page code?

Some more information regarding this bug:

The issue seems to be that once a variation is selected the images show correctly, but when the variation is changed it loads the default images again rather than the variation images. Then again when you change the variations it loads the correct variation images. Again if you change the variation options it loads the default images. This pattern repeats every time a variation is changed.
