Thanks for your help, kjodle, ?? I confess I didn’t realise I could add a gallery that way although it doesn’t solve my problem and I think that’s possibly bad explanation on my part!
I’ve just used your method to add a test gallery to a page and it generates thumbnails as I suspected. When I said I didn’t want thumbnails what I should have said was that I want the complete image to be visible so the whole artwork can be seen rather than clicking a thumbnail to open a bigger image. What I need is something akin to this, which is his current site:

Would that require a gallery plugin?
