  • So, this form is only useful anywhere else if the telephone number is not needed.

I have exactly the same issue. Is use of this plug in restricted to USA and Canada only?
European numbers have totally different telephone number formats.

Ah well – was recommended to try again here. I did see a post that sugested Chrome might be the answer so I will try that.

    OK.
I will try https://en.forums.wordpress.com/ to see if anybody there can solve my problem.
    Thank you.

I take it that WordPress will not allow transfers to sites that are not hosted by www.ads-software.com. Is this something that will be remedied or is it policy for ever?
I must say, the wordpress.com site is phenomenally user UNfriendly and there seems to be no way to ask a question that you cannot find in the search.

The Wordpess.com site is a little less than helpful but it would seem that the only way to transfer the blog contents is to redirect the wordpress.com blog to the new domain. This is a paid sofware and it is not exactly clear how well it works. It appears that copy and paste is the only way to get the posts from ajedrezmalaga.wordpress.com into ajedrezmalaga.info.
Thanks very much for trying to help, I appreciate it.

Not directly – I was referred top these forums. It looks lke I will have to try again.

I have tried many times to import the files (creating a new export file each time and deleting graphics that had been transferred) but the posts are never imported.
I tried changing the theme just in case that was a problem but it made no difference.
Do I really have to use copy and paste?

I get the same result except that this time there is only one .TXT file in the Media Library. There are no posts being imported.

There doesn’t seem to be any way to do that. If I use the Importer plug in it tells me – “Sorry, there has been an error.
This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number”.

I looked at the export file to see why there were no posts and I also looked at the text files because it diod not make sense for them to be in the media library. I used my FTP client to open them since the export file only seemed to contain an image of an opened file.
Each file is shown as 163bytes but with 4.00Kb on the disk.
The files seem to have instructions for their use (as follows) but I have not been able to make them work:-

    <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″ ?>
<!– This is a WordPress eXtended RSS file generated by WordPress as an export of your site. –>
<!– It contains information about your site’s posts, pages, comments, categories, and other content. –>
<!– You may use this file to transfer that content from one site to another. –>
<!– This file is not intended to serve as a complete backup of your site. –>

<!– To import this information into a WordPress site follow these steps: –>
<!– 1. Log in to that site as an administrator. –>
<!– 2. Go to Tools: Import in the WordPress admin panel. –>
<!– 3. Install the “WordPress” importer from the list. –>
    <!– 4. Activate & Run Importer. –>
<!– 5. Upload this file using the form provided on that page. –>
<!– 6. You will first be asked to map the authors in this export file to users –>
<!– on the site. For each author, you may choose to map to an –>
<!– existing user on the site or to create a new user. –>
<!– 7. WordPress will then import each of the posts, pages, comments, categories, etc. –>
<!– contained in this file into your site. –>

    <!– generator=”WordPress.com” created=”2012-10-17 14:33″–>
    <rss version=”2.0″

I have checked with my FTP client and these files are each 855Kb

I have copied these files to my desktop and tried to import them but get the following message “Sorry, there has been an error.
This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number”

I have spotted three files in the Media library labeled auladeajedrez.wordpress.2012-10-17.xml_.txt and they seem to contain the posts.
How do I use the importer to copy these files?

    Thread Starter artwebster

    (@artwebster)

As I said, the import correctly shows the post categories from ajedrezmalaga.wordpress.com in the ajedrezmalaga.info Dashboard but they do not show up on ajedrezmalaga.info web site.
The export file omits to record any of the text or titles of any of the 128 articles but it does contain the images associated with the articles.
A short introduction to the web site is in the export file from ajedrezmalaga.wordpress.com but that has not been transferred anywhere that I can see on ajedrezmalaga.info website
