    Hi Ron,

Thanks for your thoughts. I’ve tried that with no success, for example I added:
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^domain2.com
    RewriteRule (.*) https://domain2.org/$1 [R=301,L]

    based on suggestions here.

I get a screen including header and footer of main site, with “Registration has been disabled.” between them. It’s not accessing the subdomain site.

Any further thoughts on how to code these redirects is greatly appreciated,
    Alison

@jkhongusc: Thanks so much for your help. I was able to get the custom url pointers to work, with wordpress’s built-in feature. The problem was the custom urls were being re-directed in the .htaccess file that was associated with their former stand-alone website. Once that was deleted, it worked perfectly.

Thanks for your thoughts on my issue. Makes sense that the “error” message is indicating that subsite URL is not being recognized, that the custom url is not mapped to the subsite.

Here’s my set up: main site = domain.com, subsite1 = site1.domain.com, and subsite2 = site2.domain.com, all with the same domain name. I’ve set up a dedicated ip address for domain.com. Then using the info tab in the site section of wordpress, I enter our custom url (from a different domain) in the site url field and save that.

But when I try the custom url, it displays the error I noted above. I’ve tried it many times, in case of a miskey, and same result every time. There’s clearly something that’s not set up right, but I just can’t seem to figure what it is.

One thing to note is that the custom url is currently re-directed to the subsite, and is list on our hosting service as an add-on domain. I wonder if these settings are getting in the way somehow.

Thanks in advance for further help.

Thanks for your thoughts. When I enter the custom domain url in the site url field on the subsite it saves fine. But when I use the custom domain to access the site, it shows the header and footer of the main domain site, and this message between:

Greetings Site Administrator! You are currently allowing “none” registrations. To change or disable registration go to your Options page.
    Registration has been disabled.

Thanks in advance for further thoughts.

    All best, Alison
