In reply to: [Search & Replace] instructions for usethere is no “file” – you don’t need to do anything with the sample output
when you select “dry run”, S&R generates sample output – what you are referring to as the “file” – it does nothing to the database
when you uncheck “dry run” S&R will write the changes to every database table that you have selected
BACKUP THE DATABASE FIRST, ALWAYS!

In reply to: [Search & Replace] HTTP to HTTPS sitewidethat is a very bad way to do that IMO – you may well be changing links for sites that do not support SSL
you should be doing only the site domain (
https://example.com
)it gets even more involved however … i’m no expert and found your post because i’m wanting to the same thing to my site – i intended on using the Search & Replace plugin to change all tables in the db…
find:
https://example.com
replace:https://example.com
i asked my host about this and the guy seems very good at what he does and he works with WP constantly – he suggested this is a better way…
find:
https://example.com
replace://example.com
omitting http/https does indeed work and this let’s the visitors browser decide what is best instead of forcing anything
HOWEVER…
even that is apparently a bad thing if you use the S&R plugin (or run a global SQL query) because this will update the GUID part of the wp_posts table and, apparently, that is a big fat no-no…
WP Codex: Changing The Site URL
quote:
When doing the above and changing the URLs directly in the database, you will come across instances of the URL being located in the “guid” column in the wp_posts tables.
It is critical that you do NOT change the contents of this field.
…which is why i’m here – i want to ask the devs of this plug about that because it appears that it will always modify wp_posts GUID if the table is selected and if the search string matches content in the GUID

In reply to: [Modal Dialog] dialog not displayingagain i apologize – i used to develop software as a hobby and i know how frustrating it can be to troubleshoot problems … especially when it’s not your fault ??
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Modal Dialog] dialog not displayingi narrowed down the problem – it has something to do with some custom theme files i’m using
really sorry for wasting your time – i completely forgot about these files until you mentioned checking header.php

In reply to: cryptocurrency mining scripts (coinhive, monero)@sterndata – thanks – will do
every Coin Hive plug for WP imports the mining script (it has to) and, again, this is not necessarily a bad thing as long as the visitor is 1) made aware of this fact and 2) that an opt-in option is offered
there is no malware involved here, at least not with the Coin Hive script so far as i can tell, but AV companies are essentially labeling it as such and i think that’s because of unethical developers who run the script without asking – they’re giving this tech a bad name before it even gets rolling

In reply to: [BulletProof Security] BPS blocking WP Monero Miner using Coin Hivethe JS lib is apparently loading with the code you supplied (i have since restored the backup) but there is still some sort of a communication problem between the plugin and coin-hive.com
at this point i’m going to give up on this – i see these cryptocurrency miners as a way to revolutionize the way sites can monetize *as long as they’re implimented in an opt-IN manner*, however there are already 2 wp miner plugs which offer to run in the background WITHOUT notifying visitors and AV companies and ad-blockers are jumping all over this because of shady, self-serving developers and i think the wp crew will blacklist these plugs in the very near future
i’ll leave to you if you want to close this ticket
thanks

In reply to: [BulletProof Security] BPS blocking WP Monero Miner using Coin HiveAre you using any additional BPS Bonus Custom Code?
yes – speed boost and code that was apparently added when i ran the setup wizard, which i don’t understand because i don’t use of any plugs that BPS has inserted in the ‘skip’ rules section
here’s the whole of it…
