  • if u’r the site from the uk – i’m in the us, btw – i kinda like the few samples u had listed.

so can i assume u do both site logos and facebook banners as well? maybe i’ll send u an email in a few weeks or so, to see what u can come up with, i’ve got a laundry list of things to complete right now but need a more cohesive, professional look to both items.

lastly, i’m not ready to do a theme from the ground up, but do u have any creative suggestions on what buddypress/wordpress themes make your grade in both standard and mobile applications? i don’t want to say what theme i have now – it looks like he’s not doing well – and want to move to one that keeps progressing, especially when i, and others, pay them for a premium theme.

thanks, look forward to your response.

MODS: sorry for taking this a bit off topic, his issue is solved, just trying to keep the wp phenomena going. ??

    glad to help.

btw, what type of media is ‘airtagmedia?’ just curious.

    hi kim,

not sure of the exact problem the initial poster had, my issue was that wp-hide-dashboard still allowed, on occasion, a logged in user (contributor) being directed to their wp dashboard. not always, once or twice so far, when testing a user on the front-end.

    today, however, it worked!

and this all started with the latest wp 3.8 update. i’m not a programmer – work-in-progress – but were there any changes to wp 3.8 regarding the login function?

i’m still in development, no plugins whatsoever have changed, didn’t use test user (contributor) everyday, but the hiccup did start after upgrading to the latest 3.8 version.

as 4 plugins, i’ve got about 100 installed, mostly buddypress related, and like i mentioned earlier, nothing changed with them except for the latest wordpress version. and besides ‘simple login solutions’ and buddypress, none of them deal with logins or registrations.

    thanks

gotcha. that’s what i thought, wasn’t sure, now i know. i found some code to redirect non-admins, will test later.

hmmm, this is really strange! now when testing login w/ wp-hide-dashboard (installed since day 1), it’s working and sending the contributor to the main blog home page when using the toolbar login and bypasses the wp dashboard, like it should. the same for login on each specific blog, user stays on site, not going to main blog, bypasses the dashboard.

    one word: odd

and i guess i just missed it by a day so since it’s been about week since glancing at the hide dashboard plugin support forum, someone else had posted having an issue with wp 3.8 – not sure of the details, didn’t list them – so maybe i’m not alone on this topic and there’s a hiccup somewhere. so i’ll inquire over there.

regardless, appreciate the response, mika, i think i’ll have it resolved one way or another.

    no problem.

also add this one to your arsenal for individual blogs: ultimate maintenance mode

just network install it, then go to settings>>maintenance mode on whatever site, then enable it to take it down.

so if u want to take the whole network down, use the 1st. for one at a time, use the 2nd.

    good luck

i know u said it’s resolved, but this is what i’ve been using w/o any issues since starting with multisite.

    wp maintenance mode
wp maintenance mode admin bar alert <<this is nice to have

understood. i’m just trying to think of ways to simplify the start up of a blog for users. and that’s pretty much the only reason multisite applies here is because of the separate blog option i’m thinking about, otherwise, i completely agree with your assessment since after using multisite for a little while now, it’s much easier to see the pros and cons of using it.

    thanks for the input. ??

    +1 for multisite!

and if you can add something similar to ‘bbg record blog role changes’ and ‘sitewide comment control’ with it, you’re my new friend!

u did say something about making suggestions, no? ??

yup, i agree, i only found a few that looked promising and were regularly updated, and they were the floating type.

ideally, like i started off, i was only really looking to, maybe, at least for the time being, have a facebook and twitter share button (icon) in order for users to share the site. or what about just having a setup where you can only share the main blog website, regardless of where the user may be?? just thinking out loud at 2am!

thanks for earlier response, and sorry for the late reply.

understood. i just wasn’t sure if it was doable or not with having the share/like to be able to pick up all the pages or not. that suxs!

i have a small handful of sites on a network, and i’m trying to find a simple way to add a like/share to each site and make it consistent on each one. that’s why i thought, hmmm, what about that damn toolbar?! i guess not. but if you have any ideas or know of any social plugins you’ve come across that has good support, i’m more than willing to listen. i’ve looked at way too many over the past several days.

@jasonkadlec – i just wanted to respond and ‘thank you’ for taking the time to put that together for me, i really appreciate it. i’m going to try and tackle that in the next week or so, i’ve delayed that part until i can get the site more developed elsewhere, and still have it on my to-do list.

by chance, if you are a developer and are for hire, i may consider that route as well. i’m starting to hit brick walls, don’t have time to learn everything right now, and will need help in the near future. and if you’re, by chance, a guru of wp multisite or know someone that is, you had me @ hello! j/k! ??

    thanks again.

    cheers

same results as above poster. folder has permission of 755. also, just to test, i tried moving a jpg file into the main /uploads/ directory, not subsequent folder, and sill getting the same results.

same results as before, working on the network but not on individual sites. i also re-checked the user setting and it’s checked for the floating menu.

i think what the problem may be is that i have more menu items when glancing at the screen on the individual blogs – meaning, i need to scroll down to see all of the menu items on the left – so i’m thinking, can wp be preventing ur plugin from kicking in because of this reason? i also show no error messages.

i don’t know, just thinking out loud here, since it kinda makes sense because on the network admin menu you can see the bottom of the menu w/o having to scroll down, and the rest of the sites you need to scroll down.

    hey christian,
it’s funny u say that, i just setup bp using the berlin theme, the same guys who developed the engine for commons in a box, presscrew. i was going to go with c in a b, however i kinda liked the layout of the berlin theme a little more.

re the plugins, i’m using most of those already, i’m just getting overwhelmed since there’s a lot of plugins available but many aren’t working even though they say that they do.

anyways, appreciate the feedback, and thanks for taking the time to offer ur plugin to everyone.

thank you, frank, i really appreciate it.

i’m sure when others come across this thread, having an example to go by, will probably be helpful to them as well.

    cheers
