First I want to say that I love the art/pictures. The layout and design of the site is great.

A few things that I noticed,
The email sign up is the first thing you see. I doubt anybody is signing up before they have seen your art…
I see that you have it in the sidebar as well I would keep it there but remove it on the landing page.
By removing that your art will start show above the fold.

I would also add a picture to the about me page, this is a site about you people want to see who they shop art from.

Do you work with keywords at all to get visitor?

I think you have found a great niche, the most important part for you will be to stick out from other news channels. Why do the visitors want to follow you and your blog and not go to the news station?

Find your touch on it and make it unique make them want to come back.

For a site like this you might want to add a email sign up so that you can notify readers when the next post is out.
Give away a free e-book related to the topic if they leave their email…

I would add a contact page with either your email or contact form.

As far as the Adsense ads I would wrap text around them.

I like the clean look of the site and you have an interesting topic.

Here are some ideas for you:

I would add a Contact page
I would write posts and pages with at least 400 words
I would wrap the text around the ads so that it flows better
I would remove the “hello world” post and the META in the sidebar

It is great that you have a email form but to get people to sign up I would add an offer ” 5 tips to lose weight quick” or something like that.

Who is your targeted group? Health is a very big subject and I would focus in on one smaller niche.

I like your plain theme, keep adding content.

Here are a few things I would do:

Make sure that your posts/pages are at least 400 words
Add some relevant pictures to the posts
Work on providing value not selling

I like the theme, keep plugging away.

I agree with content is king, this will be build over time though. You might want to ask yourself what your site is about, who is your target group? It is much easier if you focus on one niche instead of many when starting out.

Let me give you an example if you are looking for watches you will go to a watch site. Not a site that talks a little bit about watches a little bit about cell phones a little bit about bears…

Give your reader what he is looking for.

I would categories things so that it is easier to find for new visitors.

-places to visit
-music
…

Another thing I was thinking about was restaurant reviews, not sure if you have any but you can review the restaurant and get them to advertise with you… or at least get a free meal:)
You can do that with other businesses as well in the city.

Agree there are no contact form on your site. You want to add that.
Reading white on black is hard on the eyes. There is a reason why most sites use black on white ??

When promoting a local business you want to connect with the reader, make them feel like they trust you and want to use your services.

There are a few ways you can do that,
Pictures – add pictures of the staff
Testimonials – have happy customers leave testimonials, potential customers love reading those
You also want to make sure your contact info is seen on all pages. You don`t want them to have to search to be able to call
