  • Hi Shockley – many of us have tried getting the form to send to alternate email addresses. Personally, I’ve tried sending to the client’s email (which is hosted at GoDaddy), my email (which is hosted at 1&1), Hotmail, and Gmail. I’ve been having the same issues, no matter which email the form is sending to.

And for me at least, at the end of the day, it’s a moot point. The contact form MUST email my client at their address. I can’t change that.

Some are leaving GoDaddy, some are just dealing with it.

There have been many attempts from all of us to contact GoDaddy, but no one has an elegant solution yet.

Personally, I was just using Contact Form 7 on a client’s website as a temporary measure before introducing a full e-commerce solution for them. So we’re just bearing with CF7 for a few weeks, before the online shopping replaces it.

Shopman2 and jmldesign – you need to check out this thread:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/contact-form-7-not-working-3/page/3?replies=35

You’ll find in that thread that it doesn’t matter what email address you have the form sending to. You’ll also see that other Contact Form plugins don’t work either.

This is a problem with the way that GoDaddy processes the forms – not a problem with the form plugin itself.

Media Temple is great. I haven’t used CF7 on there though, so I can’t comment.

I have used CF7 on sites that are hosted at 1&1, and haven’t run into any problems over there.

I’m still using Contact Form 7, and am now receiving emails within 10 minutes of sending.

This is a low traffic time though (Saturday morning) so perhaps all of this nonsense was data overload, clogging over at GoDaddy?

I’m going to keep using Contact Form 7 because I really like it, and will monitor things for a while. Thanks everyone for your help, and good luck!

Thanks for that Takayuki, but it’s not working. I plug in all those settings, with my gmail address and password, and then try the “test email”.

The test email doesn’t go through – I get an error:
‘SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection refused (111)’

    Any other thoughts?

    Cheers,
    Avery

Update on Fast Secure Contact Form – the good news is, it works. The bad news is, it takes as long as Contact Form 7 (actually, longer) to get the email.

Further evidence that this is a GoDaddy problem, not a problem with Contact Form 7 (or any other plugin).

Sorry Mike – I did miss that. End of the week, and I’m tired.

I’ve installed your plugin and have sent test messages. Let’s see if they come in any faster than Contact Form 7.

Hey everybody – an update from me:

    1. I’ve installed the WP-Mail-SMTP plugin (https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/) as per Shazen’s suggestion. Doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I AM getting emails from Contact Form 7, but like ninjojo, it’s taking anywhere from 45-90 minutes to receive them.

    2. I looked at Mike’s suggestion of using his plugin, Fast Secure Contact Form (https://www.fastsecurecontactform.com/) but it doesn’t suit my needs. I need a contact form with lots of different fields, radio buttons, etc. That’s why I like Contact Form 7 – easy to use, but powerful.

    3. I had a look at Wufoo, and this might be a good alternative. I can’t really tell, but I think Shazen is right in that Wufoo will host the form over at their site. That doesn’t really matter to me, so I’m going to give this another look.

And finally, yes rjdougan – you seem to have gotten the furthest with GoDaddy tech support. Please let us know how it goes. I was on with them last night, and they were very friendly, but ultimately told me they couldn’t touch this problem since it’s a WordPress plugin, and doesn’t use their PHP Action Form Mailer.

    Cheers,
    Avery

Thank you Mike. I’m going to install your plugin and see if it works any better than Contact Form 7.

I will also try Shazen’s suggestion of using the WP-Mail-SMTP plugin along with Contact Form 7.

I’ll reply in a few hours to let you all know my results.

    Cheers,
    Avery

    Ninjojo – keep us posted.

Bulldogs1991CJ – you’ll just have to take my word for it… the sites on 1&1 are working without a problem.

I have client sites on 1&1 and there aren’t any problems. I can send you links, but they won’t send an email to you – I don’t have it set up that way. I have the forms just send an email to the client – not to the person who filled out the form. So you’ll just have to take my word for it. =)

Hi bulldogs1991CJ – I have a number of client sites that are hosted elsewhere, and don’t have this problem. This seems to really only be a GoDaddy issue.

Yes, bulldogs1991CJ, that is the problem that GoDaddy has with the plugin. That line of code isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s not compatible with them. They want things to run through their solution – their PHP Form Mailer.

Since you don’t know how to write code, I would suggest you either:

    1. Find someone who can write you a contact form from scratch using GoDaddy’s PHP Form Mailer. BUT – shazen suggests above that even this might not be a good solution, as he/she tried it and it didn’t work.

    2. Switch hosting companies

    3. Deal with it as it is =)

    Hi bulldogs1991CH and Shopman2,

I have tried 4 different contact form plugins, and all have the same problem. So this isn’t necessarily an issue with Contact Form 7 – it’s an issue with GoDaddy.

I’m finding that Contact Form 7 is working for me, but it takes anywhere from 15-60 minutes to receive the emails.

GoDaddy won’t touch this with a 10-foot pole, as it’s not using their PHP Form Mailer.

So I figure there are two solutions (and neither of them are great):

    1. Keep trying with Contact Form 7 (or any other WordPress plugin) but expect dodgy results

    2. Or, build your own contact form using GoDaddy’s PHP Form Mailer. You might have to hire someone to do this for you if you don’t know how.

For now, I’m trying to work with what’s there, and monitor the situation. If it gets really frustrating, I’ll write my own contact form.

    Good luck,
    Avery
