I also have this problem with two different websites, there is a conflict between Yoast and Polylang. None of the two methods described here are useful: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/sitemap-shows-excluded-posts-pages/

The first method does not work: When choosing noindex on the other page, the page you want to index also acquires noindex.

The second method Developer code: When applying the filter, you remove the page unwanted from the sitemap; but home is duplicated, at least in my case.

Same problem.

Sorry, I’ve expressed it badly. Yoast and Polylang is “compatible” but it gives important errors, especially for Google Search Console. This is because the indexing features are cloned from the initial page to the translated page, with which there are duplicate content problems.
This error has happened to me exactly in two different pages and trying many combinations in the options. Surely this is related to your initial problem.

I do not think it’s compatible, I can noindex a language. It duplicates these options
