Proper way to send an Email

I have added custom HTML/Javascript to my site in order to create a dynamic and responsive form that wasn’t possible using other plugins. What’s the proper way to send the form content via email on submit? I’ve seen a lot of different ways online and I’m not sure which is best to use with this plugin and how it communicates with the wp_mail service.
