Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: PermalinksI shoudl clarify – it’s not just about better quality pluings, it’s about plugins that work across a range of themes and with other plugins. I don’t think the system works with developers making plugins in osloation. Look at the number of updates that come through all the time…. they should be properly developed first and then updated only when wp is. Just my view, but if the plugins are the jewel in the crown they they really haven’t impressed me and I avoid them wherever I can.

In reply to: Permalinksthanks WordWeaver777. I’ll see if my web developer did anything like that as he very recently installed that caching plugin.
It is ironic that as wordpress prides itself on having all these plugins that can easily be added to do all kinds of amazing things, most of my time is spent working out why one is clashing with either my theme or another plugin. Why can’t wp have a system like Apple does for vigorously checking all of the plugins before they are released ? Would save an awful lot of time for customers so aren’t tech savvy and have no clue how to fix these annoying clashes. It’s all very well being free but if it doesn’t work……!! Charge the plugin people to make them and lets have a better quality.
On performance – I was aware of this but as my website isn’t an issue in that regard I made the change. I’m not going to make another change to the permalinks – that’s just pointless, so I need to find a solution to this annoying problem.

In reply to: PDF display in WordPress 3ps when I use that code, all I get is a link to the pdf, not the embeded pdf itself. That’s why we tried two plugins and neither worked. On some browsers they may work, but unless they work over all browswer and IE8 since that is mine, it’s hopeless.
Surely WP has overcome this issue ?

In reply to: PDF display in WordPress 3thank you. Yes, I can see the embeded pdf on the link you sent.
But still, in IE8, it does not work. It has to work across all browsers to be any good for my readers.

In reply to: PDF display in WordPress 3That’s what I did before I posted here. It does not work

In reply to: PDF display in WordPress 3Well, I’ve had a wordpress expert have a go because obviously I can’t get it to work. This is what I was told : For the plugin, in IE I see a blank box come up. It seems to be
denying cookies to google docs by default (which it uses to display). So what do you suggest now ?
We even tried a diffrent plugin which still didn’t work.
thanks

In reply to: PDF display in WordPress 3Hi, has everyone given up with this ?
If I could have a step by step list of what to do, using the plugin, that would be really helpful.
I’m on a deadline and have to get this out in an hour. thankyou so much

In reply to: PDF display in WordPress 3IT DOESN’T WORK. All it does is link to the document.
Can you provide clear steps that work please ?
I have installed and activated the plugin you suggested.

In reply to: PDF display in WordPress 3Sorry, what plug in ? You gave me code to use. And it doesn’t work at all, let alone perfectly !

In reply to: PDF display in WordPress 3sorry I did all that, actually I imported the pdf from my computer. All I get is a big brown square – and that’s before I upload the media – when I added your code. Adding the media into the post still just gives me a link and even that goes nowhere

In reply to: PDF display in WordPress 3thank you. Anywhere in the editor – or where I want the page to display ? I have text to add as well.
Also, how do I get the PDF into the media gallery in the first place ?
Thanks
