I had the same problem with 3.2.18, but you can download and install an older version from here – https://en-gb.www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-optimize/advanced/
Just select the version you want from the previous version dropdown at the bottom of the page, then upload the zip using the WordPress Plugin install function of your site. I downgraded to 3.2.16 which was my previous installed version.

In reply to: [Strong Testimonials] Lightbox option not workingHi Chris,
Thanks for the response, and just a thought, why don’t you simply use the default WordPress image class “wpimgload”, which auto adds a lightbox function to any image usually inserted in a post or page?
Thanks,
I’ll close this one off
Hi wpsmort,
How is my theme incorrectly handling 404s? AIOSEO is clearly being informed that the page is a 404, as the rewritten title of the page is as specified in the 404 Title Format entry under the AIOSEO General Settings.
Thereafter AIOSEO is adding a Meta Description to the 404 page. I have turned off my CDN’s optimisation process for you and provided a source extract from the 1st link I provided, so you can clearly see what AIOSEO is outputting –
<!-- All in One SEO Pack 2.0.2 by Michael Torbert of Semper Fi Web Design[739,841] --> <link rel="author" href="https://plus.google.com/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/" /> <meta name="description" content="A study just published by the American College of Sports Medicine, shows that light exercise particularly just after meals may be able prevent high" /> <script type="text/javascript"> var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-xxxxxxxx-x']); _gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'prokinesis.co.uk']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'https://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })(); </script> <!-- /all in one seo pack -->
As to what’s hurting me, these URLs have been defunct for more than 6 months and I originally had a redirect coded directly into the htaccess file until I removed it in January. Only since upgrading AIOSEO from 2.0 has a single one of the URLs appeared on Google’s ‘HTML Improvements’ list, and all of them are currently being listed directly under ‘Duplicate Meta Descriptions’.
Hi wpsmort,
Sorry maybe I wasn’t clear enough, I’m trying to find out why AIOSEO dumps a meta description into a 404 page.
My original issue was the Meta Description of the most recent post being pulled into other pages. This includes the meta description being included on a 404 page. Google Webmaster is telling me that a number of pages which used to exist, but no longer do and therefore generate a 404, are now including a meta description which is a duplicate of the most recent post.
So Google is highlighting, and potentially penalising, duplicate content being seen on pages which should be simple 404s
What’s the issue with the 404? Other than if you check the source, it appears to include a meta description…
The site is serving a 404 page because the URL Google previously recorded is no longer available due to the permalink structure change,
They do, but why does AIOSEO still include the meta description from the most recent post in them?
The reason for the 404 is that I changed the site’s permalink structure at the end of last year when I tried Yoast’s SEO but eventually settled on AIOSEO. For some reason Google still retains records of the old URLs, despite them not existing or being listed in the sitemap for over 6 months.
Hi wpsmort,
After updating I’m still seeing the issue of the meta description for the most recent blog post being pulled into other pages. You should still be able to see it in the links I provided further up in this thread.
Cheers
Thank you. I can see that the update has an option to hide/remove meta description from paginated pages, which appears to work as described, and will hopefully eliminate the immediate issue of duplication notifications. It would be a nice feature though, as indicated in the original post, whether rather than opting to remove the descriptions entirely, if you decided to leave them enabled, the plugin appended a page number to the description. This would also remove ‘duplication’ and surely adhere closer to SEO best practice.
excellent, thank you.
btw, what’s the situation with regards to post meta descriptions being pulled into other pages as I posted on the below thread?
I use a manually set one for the actual blog page, and since I currently have around 56 pages to the blog page, that means 56 duplicate meta descriptions.
Hi wpsmort,
Thanks for the response, and I know that is the official line, but experience tells me different. Previously when I used Yoast’s SEO plugin, the duplicates on paginated content was hurting my ranking. When they fixed it the site ranking improved significantly.
Hi, I’ve got a similar problem after upgrading to 2.0.1. Google Webmaster is reporting duplicate meta descriptions on pages. Checking the source seems to show that AIOSEO is including descriptions from post pages in other pages. See examples below where an auto-generated description from a post is being used elsewhere –
Additionally Google now appears to be indexing archives and tag archives despite them being set as noindex in the AIOSEO general settings.
