I appreciate the details you’ve included about investigating this on your end. As the default/standard WordPress comments (from which our plugin pulls the exact same comments data) also do not appear/display in your NextGEN Gallery photo albums, I agree with you that the latter may be adding/storing a type of comments of its own.

That being said, I suggest you contact NextGEN Gallery support and relay this information to them, to ask if they could kindly assist.

Thanks for your replies. As mentioned, Custom HTML widgets don’t support WordPress shortcodes by default (and should only support HTML) and so the issue you’re experiencing with the latter no longer working after an update could be because shortcodes working before was actually a “bug” that the update “fixed” or corrected.

After the update, the expected behaviour of shortcodes not working in custom HTML is now true, so you will need to manually enable them via Method 2 in the link above.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having difficulty with an error that displays when you activate Better Recent Comments on your site. Thanks for getting in touch so we can help you sort it out.

From the information contained in the error message that you included, the issue you’re experiencing could be due to a conflict with the “dynamic sidebar” feature of the theme you’re using.

To test for this, please could you temporarily switch to a default WordPress theme (e.g. Twenty Nineteen) and see if it resolves the issue.

Thanks for using our plugin and well done with creating custom coding that prevents or disables the display of replies or child comments in the output stream.

I’m afraid that the plugin doesn’t have an option to hide comment replies or child comments – thanks for the suggestion! You’re the first person to request this, so I have added it to our feature request list and will let you know if we develop this in future. We add new features based on a combination of demand, difficulty and impact.

I appreciate your having included a screenshot of the issue as well. I see what you mean and I’ve confirmed this on a test site.

To resolve this, please could you try using the following custom CSS, which you can copy and paste in your site’s Customizer (under Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS):

span.comment-excerpt {
   word-break: break-all;
}
