Alright, awesome. Yeah, I plan on doing backups of everything. Really don’t want to “brick” the site. xD So I hope that “how to” has all the things I should backup covered.

backup each as in export/import? or full site backups?

Yeah, the theme is a custom job, I took over as admin for it when the guy took off to do his own thing. Been learning wordpress and php as time goes on. Any tips on where to start? Could I swipe a comments.php from another free theme or the like without making the blog blow up?

Yeah that’s what I tried, but when I tick that on, the Recent comments or even the comments on each article, they all disappear unless you’re logged in.
