In reply to: NightStylez! At my age (62) I find most people are better able to see dark test on light backgrounds – the opposite tends to blur. Also, the red? active link color is impossible for me to read clearly. A larger font size would also be good, unless the target of your site is a 20-something with perfect eyesight.

In reply to: unable to edit posts w/ embedded videosWell …
I looked closely at the updating guide for WP and have pretty mcu convinced myself that I don’t want to attempt this. The things that need to be overwritten and the things that don’t just aren’t registering in my head, and I know something is going to get fubarred.
Most sincere thanks to ericmann for reviewing the Platinum template for me to confirm that it will work with 2.6.2, but I just don’t see me pulling this off. The directions for this assume a greater knowledge of WP than I possess, unfortunately. I’ll just plod along with 2.1.2 and worry about being hacked if it happens. I have everything backed up on my system, so if it domes to that …

In reply to: unable to edit posts w/ embedded videosWell, I just backed up my sql database … just in case. Which leaves me with another question.
How the heck would I restore this thing if I needed to? The file currently resides on my drive.

In reply to: unable to edit posts w/ embedded videosIn WordPress 2.1.2, the profile link is in the upper right hand corner next to “Howdy, yourname” and the “Sign Out” link. If you click the “My Profile” link, you’ll be taken to the page that lets you edit your name, contact information, biography, and change your password.
Sheesh … 2 years and I never noticed that before:( Thanks!

I would certainly appreciate any help you could offer on my template. I will drop you an email to see what is required.

I checked my Dashboard and I cannot find anything there to turn off the visual editor. Actually I wouldn’t want to because for most posting that’s what I use and prefer. I do keep my files on my system, but my blog has been running for over 2 years with no problems.ericmann:
As above, I found no such checkbox in my Dashboard. Possibly it’s not a feature of my version, but I checked every page of the Options area, and all others as well.I’m sure there are plenty of people on the forums who could do what you suggest, but I am not in any position to pay for this. I’m retired on SSD and it’s not an option.
I also did a search on the templates page for a newer version of Platinum and came up empty. What it would take to get it working with the newest version of WP I haven’t a clue, but it sounds involved and not within my means.
Thanks for the suggestions, though.

In reply to: unable to edit posts w/ embedded videosI rechecked and it’s actually 2.1.2, but I doubt it matters.
The problem is by default the editor open into Visual. As soon as it opens, the code is scrambled, so going to the Code editor – which is the only way you can embed a file anyway, doesn’t help.
The update just isn’t gonna happen. I have no need for most of the new “features”, and I’m not at all conversant in PHP programming – so having to adjust my entire blog to conform is a no-go. I’m using “platinum-10” as a base with a few changes (color scheme, right sidebar additions). AFAIK, it will not work in the newer version of WP. All I hear is people with more experience than I having update problems. I can’t deal with that with my limited knowledge.
