Your best bet is to re-insert/re-upload those images to their proper place. The folder file path probablly got changed when you changed URL’s. You could always try to find which folder WP is searching in for the image by going to the page, right click, and view page source.

You are welcome. Glad it cheered you up instead of doing the oppsite. ?? I was a little afraid of that after I posted.

It took me years to learn not to panic even when things seem to be crashing down on your head and going wrong. Worry and panic is in my nature. The big guy is helping me overcome that even now.

I’m on a major learning curve also. I haven’t made a back up yet. I’m still messing around before switching 75+ pages over to WP. Right now all pages are on my computer. It is going to be so easy to export to my computer than what I’m currently doing. When I start doing that, I’ll be saving.

I’m glad to hear everything was much easier for you the second time around.

You are right, they should have a warning. I would think changing the URL is one thing and wouldn’t require a total reset. Changing hosting companies definitely would.

Under settings – permalinks choose custom structure. In the field type in /%postname%/

That will give you the https://www.url.com/about-me/

For static pages: pages – edit: under title you can edit the permalink further. Example from about-me to aboutme. The same thing goes for the post. post – edit: under title you can further edit the permalink.

    Many youtube vids on this.

SwansonPhotos you’re right. Where is my mind tonight. He can get the image URL path by going to the blog/page and clicking view source as long as the person knows some coding.

Ouch, I recently decided to use word press and learned how to have a static html page as my index in the same directory as the WP was in. I did that so I can test designs before recreating my site in WP. Watched a detailed youtube video on it how to do it. Searched wordpress static home page. I’ll switch switch over fully to WP when it is ready.

If you were aiming to keep the static site and have a secondary WP site in the same root you needed to move WP into another directory. Of course you could have kept https://www.url.com as the static site, and https://www.url.com/home/ or what ever you have your permalink set to as the WP index home page. That could have worked.

Since you moved WP already, as far as the photos it depends on which folder/s WP is trying to grab them from. Try googling wordpress finding image location to try to find a plug in for it.

Otherwise, you will have to go back into WP admin, edit the pages and widgets, and re-upload the photos.

Hopefully someone else has a better idea.

    Good luck.

Did you try contacting your hosting service? Sometimes they will have a back up of your site. Not sure what else to say, unless you had some copy on your computer that you saved in a word program instead of typing everything in Word Press. Hopefully you bookmarked any off site links you wanted on the site. Easier going through the bookmarks than having to dig everything back up.

Otherwise an expensive lesson to always back up everything in 15 minute to a half hour intervals as you go along. It depends on how much I get done. I learned back in my college years with three hours of composing and typing a paper, and the power goes out. Didn’t save anything. Didn’t have anything written down or printed except my notes.

If you have to rebuild again, this time it should be a little faster since you already know what to do to customize everything you want. You already found your images. That is a plus. You already know what you want to say, and where to put things. This time it might turn out even a little better the second time around.

Trying to cheer you up a little. Good luck. Remember to back up frequently.

PS. I wish I could edit the post. I took the title off my page, and it still worked.

I did change the permalink setting under settings to custom structure. In the box beside the words custom structure I entered /%postname%/

This gives me a nice URL that would look like https://www.url.com/happy-faces.com. Instead of having all the numbers in the URL.

Then I went to edit my test page. Under where you enter the title is a link where you can edit your permalink. I could edit happy-faces to happyfaces if I wanted to.

That is where you are going to find your URL to that page, and you can edit it there also. Use the end of the URL in the widget box without any slashes. That should work.

I recently spent a bunch of time watching youtube videos to find all this out and more. Good luck.

I just recently tested this out with widget context plug in. I changed the permalink to https://www.url.com/test/.

When I went to show that widget on test page only I put in the page name test without any slashes, and it worked. I couldn’t see the widget on my other test2 page.
