How is it coming along Brytt? I remember what its like being new to WP and have spent a lot of time learning recently. I may be able to assist you and help make sense of it. the wp-config.php should be the name of the file. Have you found a web host yet? If so, then you need to edit this config file locally, input the name and password of your database, save the config file and upload it to your server. I have attached this helpful link. What is it that you are needing and/or trying to accomplish? Just because windows doesnt support .htaccess doesnt meant you cant accomplish what you are trying to do. If you need assistance, please let us know. ??

Do you have full URL example by chance? The 404 error is usually the “page not found” error. Could be in the web server itself or permissions, could be alot of things really. An example URL would be very helpful for us to help you. Thank you

It could be a server issue. Perhaps within the site as well though. Db issue. A lot of possible things it could be, however, you did get it to work with your temp fixes.

First of all, it is so very hard to compare your site to your friends site. Focusing on you first, have you checked for available updates for your wp theme? Your theme is out of date. If it was me, I would install a new theme and make sure you have the latest version of WP etc. In order to solve your spiratic issue is to trouble shoot, and doing the above is the first steps you need to take. Dennis… Are you wanting the same exact thing as Emileey? I may be able to offer you some insight if so.

Couple of things. What version of WP are you running? Second, what i would do just to eliminate this possibility is goto your FTP client, on your local site (not the server) and find your index page, right click and select open with, select text edit or note pad depending on your OS, once thats open look for your mysterious number 6. If there delete it and upload your file to the server. Keep us posted. =)
