Changing each of the thumbnails is not possible in the theme. You will have to customize the theme’s code with the help of child theme for that.

I have tested the child theme on my setup but there was no such issue. You have mentioned that you created a child theme and are using that. There might be a possibility that the child theme that you have created might have some issues.
