I have fixed it! The problem was not with WordPress at all but with a corrupted copy of IE 8 on my PC. This morning – I am in the UK – it occurred to me to check the site out in Firefox, where it was fine. I then tried the same thing on my wife’s laptop also in FF and again was fine. That made mne look at IE8 more closely.

For Dwojta’s benefit – if you are also using a version of IE – the solution is to reset IE8 -in my case – to its factory settings ie via Control Panel/ Internet Options / Advanced Tab/ Reset – at the bottom right.

After restarting IE 8 there is the usual Welcome routine and I chose to reject all accelerators and add-ons to ensure that there was no unwanted clutter. After resetting my start pages, I looked at the site again and the RSS feeds were perfect.

Hope this helps Dwojta and thanks Esmi for your interest in the problem. If the same solution works for Dwojta, then I would say that the problem is resolved.

By the way, I have just looked at Dwojta’s site and it show exactly the same sort of code as my site has on its RSS feeds.

Thanks Esmi. At the moment there is no site – I am working in a localhost setting but later today, I should be able to put something up at
    http:/www.seenandheard-international.com

What happened was that the feed was working and I noticed that it had a link marked Edit at the bottom, so I clicked it to see what it did. After that, a messaage flashed up asking me if I would like to do something else – can’t remember what now – and after I accepted that, I was left with the feed pages – reading and comments – showing nothing but code.

As I said I have tried all sorts to fix this but to no avail. Any advice would be much appreciated and I also would be interested to learn what Dwojta did to apparently cause the same problem – if that’s not breaking Forum rules of course.
