macmanx, IMO that list is not the real change set–there’s just no way all those image files, for example, changed. If this minor update fixes two small problems as stated, then almost certainly there are far fewer files with changes and that’s the list kentl and I are looking for.

If I may be honest (if not, oh well), you seem to have made a good start but aren’t quite there yet. Not if you want to meet my personal standards, of course. The middle and right columns both use centered text, which is like nails on a blackboard to me. Next, there’s too much space between lines throughout. Third, there’s no obvious sign that blog entries beyond the first are extracts with more to be read by clicking the post title.

On a more positive note, I love the header graphic, color scheme (if I was in Reservoir Dogs, I would have played Mr. Blue) and I did enjoy your writing. Hope Babboo makes out okay.

Jinsan, I mean if only those two areas are covered by the release we should get a smaller set of files and not have to overwrite essentially the entire installation (not counting configuration or 3rd party files).

Podz, I assume you’re specifically referring to this page in answering Silvetti. However, that list seems to seriously overstate what files actually changed from 1.5.1 to 1.5.1.1–somehow I doubt every image file changed to fix two bugs in the RSS and *backs functions.

I’m really unhappy (which is in my mind, and not the responsibility of WP developers ?? with this update not having a more finegrained patch available. Is there a good reason why this cannot be done? Having to manage personal/plugin changes to the main codeline for every small release is very much not a good thing for WP overall.

Denis, tell me if I’m understanding your intentions for this plugin correctly please. The major use of Smart link is to simplify links to other URLs on one’s own site and to search engines and not especially for normal external links; for example, if I were to write an entry about Smart Link on my blog, the plugin doesn’t add much value.

Second, besides rel=nofollow, does it handle anchor tag attributes such as title?

Looking at your blacklist, it seems pretty short and also doesn’t take into account the ‘funny’ ways spammers have of spelling words these days to avoid filters (for example, p0ker with a zero instead of an o or v1agra with a one instead of an i). I was reading a bunch of your blog entries last night and didn’t notice any spam so it does seem to work, I’m just wondering if you can comment on this.

@angsuman, thanks, I installed the referer plugin but since I’m not planning to enable comments I didn’t use hashcash. However, I really would prefer not to have to moderate every trackback so if you can think of a more automated solution that would be terrific.

Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a trackback-only spam blocker (WP 1.5.1)?

dss, thanks for posting anonymousbugger’s solution, it worked for me. One thing you might do to make the change more obvious is point out that only one line actually needs to be changed, possibly by highlighting that line in a different background color.

Sorry, I wasn’t even aware of the wp-hackers mailing list and am now highly amused that I posted this question just days after such a huge thread on the topic. Try not to be such a noob but what does it get you anyway ??
