Sorry for the late reply, I’ve just made some changes that might help.

You should now be able to restrict the product itself which will include all variations, or you can have the product unrestricted and then add restrictions on specific variations.

I just uploaded 0.4.2, try it out and let me know if it didn’t help!

The meta field for the countries is called _fz_restricted_countries and should contain an array of countries that are allowed or not allowed. You should be able to import it, but be aware that it is a serialized field, you need to get the format right.

I’m running it now with 2.6.9, it seems to work.

A known issue is that if you have a page cache, it may store the page with the enabled button and when a visitor from a blocked country arrives, they will see the cached version. I haven’t had time to find a workaround that is not dependent on the theme. But if you have a cache, you could try to disable it while testing to find out if that is the issue.

I must admit I haven’t tried it much with variable products, but right now I can’t think of a reason why it shouldn’t work the same way.

It could be your theme that handles the “add to cart” button differently for variable products. When the button is disabled, do you still see the message “Sorry, this product is not available in your country”?

You should be able to choose from all the countries you have specified under “WooCommerce / settings / shipping / shipping options / specific countries”.

Maybe I should change it to always display all countries.
