  • One of my sites got hacked and had these odd search results too. I didn’t find any more help on fixing it than the people above provided, but here is some info I found useful to understand what in the world is going on.

The hackers apparently install code that does “cloaking” (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloaking). It recognizes when a search engine spider, like Googlebot, is crawling the site and gives it a different version of the web page (e.g. one filled with Rx drug ads). This facilitates so-called “spamdexing.” You can see the different ways the site is being rendered by using a “cloaking detector” (see, for example: https://www.cloakingdetector.com/).

Hope that helps. It sure helped me understand some of what happened to me!

Thanks for the response, Rob. I’m glad you’re thinking about making it an option. That would be great!

I tried what you suggested (after I updated to v. 1.01, which might not have been a good idea) and it still doesn’t seem to work in my IE8. (Although, I recently did a Windows Update and noticed that there were some other changes in how IE rendered my design. It has made me think there were some IE updates. But I’m not sure. Maybe that’s why it’s still not working for me.)

BTW, it may be a bit misleading to say I’m looking for the plug-in to be collapsed by default since you’re right that you don’t have it like that on your blog. I wouldn’t mind it if they did collapse by default; that would work for me. But I also wouldn’t mind if the option was to have it like you have it on your blog: the status of the collapsing or expanding is displayed on refresh however the user left it. So when I expand a category on your blog (in any browser), it will stay expanded on refresh (or browsing to a new page) if I left it expanded. However, if I collapse it back and then refresh, it stays collapsed. Was the work around you just posted supposed to make it work like your blog does? Could you just let us know how you get it to do that?

    Thanks again for the support.

Note: I just found that this doesn’t look like it’s working in the most recent version of IE8. It works in the most recent versions of Firefox and Safari, though.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Please!
