FIGURED IT ALL OUT – I just confused the pop-up styling with the button styling. My fault entirely. I hope I didn’t waste anyone’s time.
Thanks for the suggestions! When you don’t do this professionally it is great to get help from the community.
Today, I downloaded and installed Pop-Up Maker plugin – they don’t make it obvious, but there is a free version that does everything I want, especially being able to style every aspect of the pop-up. So, now my pop-up matches the rest of the site’s branding.
It works perfectly – doesn’t leave buttons lying around all over the place! In addition, they make a point of saying that web crawlers get passed through the pop-up (which I assume this one does too, but who knows?).
There is only one button, but for a basic terms pop-up that’s all you need.
Best of luck!Hi amityweb, I seem to be having a similar or related problem. After accepting the terms, some, but not all, of my pages just show the agree / disagree buttons. It’s totally random – different browser, different computer, results in the buttons appearing on different pages.
Are you using a premium version that allows you to style the pop-up? I wanted to style the pop-up by adding css to my Divi Child style.css file, but none of the changes materialized – I assumed it was something to do with using the javascript option.
Having said that, I am using SGOptimizer, which is siteground’s local caching plug-in, and I use CloudFlare for CDN (i.e. more caching). And I have been having a really hard time these days with updating my site because it seems totally random which changes come through immediately and which take a few hours to show up – I do use the usual tricks of adding /?1 to the address, or ctrl – shift – r to reload the page.
Stanimir – Thanks for the explanation and link!
IanThanks for replying @mbrsolution and @samatva.
I guess I can remove the plug-in since the only emails sent FROM my site are to me. I use Mailchimp to email anyone who signs up to my list.

I will try the DIY route first. If I have any problems I may ask for more help.
Your premium package is a little rich for me!

In reply to: [Related Posts for WordPress] Related posts don’t seem to be related!Barry,
Thanks for the clarification – in my case, then, the issue is really that the weighting to the title content (80%) vs tags (10%) is probably higher than would be ideal for my situation. I have had in mind to use R and my tags and articles to do a little semantic mapping project to see if I can improve my tag structure.
I noticed in that article a link to another in which you explained how the weightings can be adjusted. You provide a PHP script to show how to adjust the weightings – where do I put that script and when would I run it?
I am pretty sure I could create a little “settings” page for myself to make it easier to experiment with this on my staging site.
I am very happy that you chimed in as I was going to give up on this plug-in!

Thanks for the reply. I guess this makes it clear why it doesn’t work the way I expected!
Seems like tags would be better than titles – the whole purpose of tags is to identify posts with related subject matter! A post will also have more tags than meaningful words in the title.

In reply to: [All-in-One WP Migration and Backup] Issue with converting email addressesThanks Yani – do I have to tick the box each time?
So I downloaded and installed Better Search and Replace and there are 47 instances where the email address in the database is now wrong! That’s pretty serious.
I guess from your end it is hard to tell whether the email needs to be updated or not. So why not simply replace “oldDomain” with “newDomain”, why pre-pend www? Reduce redirects perhaps? Especially if the context is “@oldDomain” – would it ever be appropriate to change to “@wwww.newDomain”?
Just thinking out loud here. I guess I have to go figure out the context of those 47 instances of “@www.myDomain.com” and see if it is safe to change them!

In reply to: Can’t access pagesYou are correct, and thank you for your patience.
Flushed Chrome local cache and now I can access pages.
Is there some place where there is a list of things to try first? Like a trouble-shooting guide?
Seems like it should look something like this:
Try a different browser. If it works it is likely a caching issue. Flush local cache. Flush any caches specifically to do with WP (in my case SG Optimizer). Flush CDN cache (in my case CloudFlare).
If you get an access or permission related message, check file (644) and directory (755) permissions on the server. Do a recursive re-set.
Deactivate every plug-in. If this fixes the problem, switch them on one-by-one until the problem re-appears. The issue is likely two plug-ins not getting along or a plug-in and the theme not getting along. Figure it out by a process of elimination.
Check your theme is up-to-date. If not, update it. If this doesn’t help, and it is possible, try rolling back to an earlier version. If you can only roll-back one version, try rolling back first, then try updating.
Check you have the most up-to-date WordPress. If you do, re-install it anyway.
If the problem is that something you think should show up on a page but it doesn’t, use MySQL to check that the data is actually in the database.
If all else fails, revert to the last known good back-up. But be aware you may lose changes you have made in the interim period.
Anyway, once again, thanks for hearing me out!

In reply to: Can’t access pagesOk. I tried using Firefox instead of Chrome and I can access my pages!
Does this suggest a caching or cookie problem in Chrome?

In reply to: Can’t access pagesCould a theme affect the behavior of edit.php?
It seems odd that it works fine for, say, projects and posts, but not pages.

In reply to: Can’t access pagesMy question was not so much to do with Divi, but Themes in general: can one safely switch from one theme to another?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Can’t access pagesThanks for responding. Can one just switch between themes? Divi is a builder type theme, I am worried that “stuff” will happen. I am suspicious that Divi is the cause, maybe I can find a way to role back to the version I had yesterday morning??
