In reply to: RSS: Operation timed out???Update: I had to remove the RSS Feed altogether! Host said I was still using up most of their space. When I deleted the feed it was fine. What could be causing this? I’m completely flummoxed!

In reply to: RSS: Operation timed out???It’s taken a long time, but my host finally removed whatever it was. I did most of what you suggested, Chris, then gave up as it took so long. I sent one last e-mail to the host & finally got some action. Seems fine now. Thanks again.

In reply to: RSS: Operation timed out???Thanks again, Chris! I’ll get on it in the morning as I just can’t do any more right now. It’s been a long & difficult day!
Good-night,

In reply to: RSS: Operation timed out???Thanks & sorry, it’s https://smallbones.ca/blog/ as you’ve discovered. My host said my site was using up too much whatever last week, so I guess it’s connected with them. I set up WP Super Cache, so I was hoping that the slow load problem had disappeared. Unless you have another idea, I’ll check with them in the morning. How quickly does Super Cache work?

In reply to: Comments box missingWoohoo! There were 2 lines in the config file — thank-you again, so much, Samboll!
Now that I’ve finally got everything working, I see there’s an update wp 2.9.2. I’m afraid to do it!

In reply to: Comments box missingThanks again, it’s finally working with /blog%year%/%postname%/ (I had a simple /%postname%/ in there before & it didn’t work!)
I think my only remaining problem is that I still can’t get the rss feed to work, though. It says “A feed could not be found at https://smallbones.ca” no matter what put after that. (BTW, I did post this in a separate post but have not rec’d any replies in 3 days so I hope it’s okay to continue here. You’re a great resource Samboll, and I thank you for your help.)

In reply to: Comments box missingSorry about the 2 threads. I saw your answer & replied:
Thanks so much for responding! It’s /http:/smallbones.ca/blog%year%/%postname%/-
I’ve changed it a few times, hoping it would make the problems disappear. And I did put the code in the .htaccess file.
How do I get rid of the double url? Do I simply remove the http:/smallbones.ca’ part?Forum: Fixing WordPress

In reply to: Comments box missingI added the line in the page.php theme file, and I now get ‘0 comments’ at the end of each post. A step in the right direction, but unfortunately, when you click on it you get a 404 error message. I still get a 404 for page continuation and I still can’t get an rss feed to work. For rss I tried the ‘$feed=rss’ as was advised in one post, but no luck. I need to get these problems fixed.
Please somebody…help!Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Can’t get rss feed to workPS: I tried it without the word ‘blog’ in the location name, too.

In reply to: Trouble uploading pluginsForget it. I just installed them both through the ‘install new’ panel & they were fine.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Trouble uploading pluginsYes, they’re .zip format. My host is Nexicom.net and I have uploaded other plug-ins so I don’t think it’s a host problem.

In reply to: All set up…then gone!I’ve got it! Yippeeeee!
I did the theme functions addition as suggested at Changing_The_Site_URL. It worked, so I removed the other changes and it still works.
Now I hope to find the time to get this blog up and running the rest of the way!
Thanks for your help.

In reply to: All set up…then gone!Yes, that’s when I get the login page, try to log in, and get the 404 with the lines as it says in my last post. I made the wp-config.php additions exactly as above.
Maybe I’ll try some of the other fixes at Changing_The_Site_URL
