I emailed my hosting provider and they restored it for me using my backup file overnight. So…. still no answer as to how to do it myself. But at least I have my website back!
From now on…. I’m backing up my database separate from my files.

I use ehosting.ca, not ehosting.com different provider ??

Right now I’m trying to even just restore the database and the PhpMyAdmin will only take a backup file from my computer. My backup file is on my FTP folder. I can’t download it to my computer or copy it anywhere because it’s too big.

From their Readme file:

How do I restore a backup? =
Up to now, there is no feature in BackWPup to restore a backup. You can follow [these instructions from the WordPress Codex](https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup) or [this tutorial (also Codex)](https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WordPress_Backups) for more detailed information on cPanel, Plesk, vDeck and others.
….. which, again, only speaks about restoring database

I use a shared hosting that does not provide backup services (www.ehosting.ca).
I’m using the BackWPup plugin to back up my wordpress files and database so all I have is a Tar.Gzip file in my folder.
I don’t have an option to restore full backup when I log in to my hosting service, I use cPanel and WebFTP in there.

That’s just for restoring the database. I need to restore the files.

finally got automated responses to my requests to reset my password today! Over two weeks! Thing is, I click on the link and it doesn’t even work! Too little too late boys! I’ve had time to rebuild my website from scratch and am not even using this backup anymore.

Thanks Tara, took me a while and a lot of work. It’s a good thing it was my own website and not one that someone was paying me for. I’d be in trouble. ??

No help anywhere.
Even the backups I had running were of no help as there doesn’t seem to be any humans working there. Can’t log in to my account there and the password reset and support requests went unanswered. Don’t use Online Backup for WordPress by Backup Technology!

Here is how I solved my problem:

1: FTP: renamed old wordpress folder so that the website no longer refers to it
2: I had an old backup from a year ago. Installed new WordPress instance of the same version as my backed up files and using a new database.
3: WP: installed plugins.
4: FTP: copied files from old backup to new WordPress folder, especially content.
5: WP: upgraded wordpress to 4.0
6: WP: upgraded plugins as needed
7: DB: Now I had to get all settings back. Looked through the wp_options database table of my “disabled” website and looked for anything that looked like it was a setting that I would have changed. Exported those (SQL) and imported them into the new database. Ensure you don’t copy any hacked options.
8: DB: got all of my posts back by exporting the wp_postmeta and wp_posts tables from my disabled website and importing them into my new website.
9: the only thing I wasn’t able to get back was my NextGen Gallery and pictures.

I don’t think anyone is working there. Also sent an email to their “support” email address and got no response.
I’m giving up on this.

I disabled all themes except twenty fourteen (by renaming their directories through FTP) and that’s when I get the blank screen.

Yes, I did a manual update using the extended upgrade instructions.
