I have the same problem, just got suspension on Hostgator shared hosting because of this.

It eats CPU when there is a spike in traffic.

Does it call admin-ajax.php for every visitor separately?
How can I stop that? I would be fine with updating counts periodically instead of on every visit.

You can publish recipes under one category (ex. recipes) and exclude that category from the loop of your blog. As a separate section you can just use category archive or create a new page and call only posts from recipes category.

Or even better, create custom post type for your recipes. The easy way to do that. Here you can also choose to have an archive of posts (like category or tags archive). This is better option because you can also create custom template for your recipe posts.

Ok I installed the plugin again and it works, ratings are untouched.

Is this resolved now Pete? Is there a way to make W3 Total Cache and Link Localizer work together?

Care to tell us how you fixed this? It doesn’t work for me. I am also using w3tc, emptied cache but it didn’t help.
