From my quick research (I’m new to php and mostly only know the wordpress-specific stuff) I understand that this is a configuration file? I’d like to try this. It should be uploaded to my root, yes? I am unsure what would need to be tweaked to get it to work, though.

    I would appreciate your help.

What good in an “ad” when it can only be seen from the administrator’s back-end access. Surely the blog’s administrator already knows that they are using Yahoo to host their own blog?

If the OP is cocerned about Yahoo’s TOS then he/she can always uninstall yahoo’s buggy-as-hell butchered version of WP and re-install the software on their own. Just copy your database (make a backup) and then re-import it into the new install.

The Yahoo header is a plugin that is installed with WordPress when you use Yahoo’s auto-install. Find the file in the plugins folder and delete it — this will delete the banner. As far as I know, deleteing it does not violate any of Yahoo’s TOS.

Hopefully next time you post a question to the WP forums, only those with helpful answers will respond.

Now that WP and Yahoo are planning on “teaming up,” the forum will see a lot more of these questions, so it might behoove everyone to humor the people who are seeking advice here. Yahoo claims not to support WP, and you all are claiming not to support Yahoo, so there really is nowhere for someone with questions to go, now is there.

Please, if you don’t have a legitimate answer for a question, don’t post a snide comment.

Well, I don’t know what happened but I just opened the file and didn’t change a thing, just re-saved, and suddenly it works. So thanks for the quick reply.

Okay, the undefined entity is fixed but that didn’t solve the problem. Viper, I’m sure I need to edit my RSS 2 file but I don’t know what to edit.

I have looked at this thread but I don’t have htaccess. The rest is all gibberish to me.

I’m hesitant to edit the 2.0 file without really knowing what I’m doing. Viper, do you have more specific advice?

Do a search here and you’ll learn that Yahoo’s auto-install of WP is so broken there should be a new word for it. Overall, Yahoo is a mediocre host, but if you want to use WP I suggest installing it yourself, not relying on their install.

Geek99 — I just checked your site and the sidebar appeared to be in the right place. I am using Safari with a 1024×768 resolution. Is it possible the internet browser you are using is of a smaller resolution, such as 800×600? This is most likely what’s causing you to see the sidebar at the bottom — there is not enough room on the screen to see everything, so some of it gets smashed to the bottom.

To test this theory, try finding a theme the will fit in an 800×600 resolution — Kubrick is an example — and see if your sidebar is in the correct place when using that theme. If it is, them you need to adjust the style sheet in the theme you want to use so that everything fits next to each other and doesn’t get pushed down.

For more info on how you can do this, try seraching for “CSS” or “cascading style sheets”

There is an article in the WP Codex on podcasting you shoud read — you can find it by searching for podcast. As far as I know, WP 1.5.2 automatically inserts the appropriate enclosures into your feed, and many people have reported problems with this in 2.0.

By the way, 1.5.2 is not “old and busted.” It still worked just fine — some would say it works better than the new release.

Strixy, don’t be an asshole — this error could apply to someone with a video blog — the sole purpose of which is to HOST VIDEOS. Your reply was just as obonoxious as unwanted media on a blog. Not only that, but your “response” does nothing to answer this person’s question, so you are really the one who shouldn’t have bothered. My pet peeve is people who post annoying, hateful comments to legitimate questions.

Kwarner, a number of people have had issues with the embed feature in 2.0. Please do a search for “embed” or “podcast” to see other discussions regarding this issue. Also, for future reference, it would be helpful if you would provide a link to your site in your forum profile so the rest of us can investigate.

    Good luck.

I suggest you uninstall Yahoo’s installation (which you can do from the control panel) in then re-install all the wp files using your FTP client onto the root. When you download wordpress, it comes in a file called “WordPress.” Open this file and install everything inside it to your server five FileZilla. One of the issues I have with Yahoo’s installation is that they require you to put your blog in a subdirectory, but you don’t really have to. The new install will make your blog your home page.

If you have already posted a few entries to your blog, you can export them from the database and re-import them into the new install. Do a search for “moving wordpress” to learn how to do this.

    Good luck!

    Suchcomedy —

Don’t try to delete just yet. In order to take that Javascript out, you need to find the file where it is located on your server. So log onto your server, open the file called wp-content, select the theme you are using, and you’ll see a list of files such as “header,” “Index,” “sidebar,” and “footer.”

Try to guess where this javascript is (if it shows up at the top of your page, it’s likely in the header) then open that file on your server and edit it there. You shouldn’t have tp upload anything.

It might help you to read some of the information on the WP codex about using sidebars and how the templates work. Even if you don’t have specific questions, the codex is basically a users’ manual for wordpress and will help you solve prpoblems on your own without having to wait for someone to reply to you here.

    Good Luck!

Just a rant, personally, but I think the people at WP need to know that their partnering with Yahoo has not been as great as everyone made it out to be. When I let Yahoo install WP 2.0 for me, it basically broke everything. Misdirected permalinks, no comment notifcation, lost posts (all this after I imported my old databse into my new install). They REQUIRE that you install your blog into a directory, which makes for extremely long permalinks, and they have very little support for PHP or SQL. One of the reasons I went with Yahoo Hosting was their 24-hour telephone support, but when you call, half the people don’e even know what WordPress is. They told me once that I had to contact the maker of the software for issues with it, even though Yahoo was the once who installed the software.

I tried Yahoo’s 2.0 (beta, by the way, not even the full release yet) for two weeks before I deleated their install and re-installed Duke on my own. Since then, everything has worked like a charm.

Other than this one software issue, I’ve NEVER had any trouble with Yahoo’s hosting — I just think they should have spent a little more time working out the kinks of this partnership and educating their customer service reps before claiming to fully support WP.

Ralf — I also have another domain name that is forwarded to the site you checked, so that may be why there are so many results. Please check the other thread on this topic, https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/55735?replies=11, to see what I recommend doing.

Hey, did you both allow Yahoo to install WP for you, or did you install it yourself? I ask because my site has been on Yahoo for a while, but when WP released 2.0 and started “partnering” with yahoo, I decided to use their install instead of my own.

BIG MISTAKE. Nothing ever worked right, so I finally uninstalled Yahoo’s installation and reinstalled WP 2.0 on my own (on the same server) and have not had any complaints since.

I am currently using Yahoo but am not having the same error you guys are getting. See for yourself: rulebrittaniea.org.

Log onto Yahoo Web Hosting and under your root directory find the file called wp-config. Inside this file you can see the password and user name Yahoo set up (assuming you did not do this yourself) for your MYSQL database.

Yahoo also has 24-hour telephone support. You can call them at 1-866-800-8092 (you REALLY have to search to find this info on their web site). You can also go through the “Help” section on Yahoo web hosting and fill out a help request form. Lastly, you can e-mail their php/mysql team at wh-php (at) yahoo-inc (dot) com. This is likely the fastest way to get help, as the telephone support will probably point toward this e-mail as well.

I’m hosted on Yahoo but not having any problems whatsoever. Try refreshing, deleting your cache, using a different browser.
