We got around this in 2 ways, both work but have pros/cons
1) Sticky sessions. Works fine but harder to move traffic off of a hot node
2) Storing php sessions in redis. Let’s you spread sessions out as you spin up nodes but is a single point of failure
We would have rather used #2 but for other infrastructure reasons went with #1
