Thanks very much for responding. I looked at the video and have made sure that I am pasting unformatted, pure text, but I still haven’t managed to make it work. I don’t know what I am doing wrong, but I really want to fix it!

As I say, I have installed the Modern Footnotes plugin, so I now have to try and work out why I can’t get it to work. It’s probably my fault. I have been using the Classic Editor for many years and am struggling to transition to the Gutenberg one.
