Did you disable your plugins? How about a manual update?

Is the database location still localhost?

By default, you should already have the ability to install/upgrade WordPress and WordPress plugins from the Dashboard, no need for suPHP.

See Domain Mapping at WordPress.com.

The only thing I can think of Step 1, sub-step 3.

Delete the old wp-includes and wp-admin directories on your web host (through your FTP or shell access).

After that, reupload the files for 3.0.1.

Try running the upgrade.php file anyway (even though the Dashboard doesn’t indicate it).

There’s still a few more steps after uploading the 3.0.1 files.

In the Dashboard, expand the Media tab and click Add New. Then, upload your PDF.

Note: Consider the file size and your server’s limit.

Check the top of your CSS file (in your child theme). Make sure it matches the format for referring to the parent theme?
