In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Cannot prevent commentsWell, good idea, and I tried turning off comments (there isn’t a blog on my site), but the comment space was still there, and I could still successfully enter a comment.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Cannot prevent commentsThanks, @matumu,
I do have the latest version of the events calendar, I went back to the 2016 theme, deactivated all of my plug-ins except theeventscalendar, cleared the browser cache, and yet there is still a comment space for each event. I tried entering a comment, and I could do so successfully.
What would you suggest for a next step?
Forum: Localhost Installs
In reply to: Newbie: Mac installation with MAMP gets Not Found messageYes, and I seem to have solved the problem. I think I just didn’t have the correct degree of nesting: the folder I point MAMP to has to contain a folder that in turn contains the WordPress site, evidently. I had pointed MAMP at the folder containing the files of the site, not a folder containing those files. Adding that second folder made all go smoothly. As I said, I was sure it was something elementary, and it was, but bit hard to diagnose!
Thanks very much for the replies.

In reply to: Newbie: Mac installation with MAMP gets Not Found messageYes, MAMP is running. The complete path to the wordpress folder is /Users/WEWilliams/Sites/wordpress. And at least the way I installed it, I think the MAMP URL is https://localhost:8888 rather thanm 8080. I tried setting up a second wordpress install in htdocs in the MAMP folder (and, of course, changing MAMP’s settings to point there), and that, too, resulted in a not found.
Thanks much for your reply! At my level, there’s no such thing as a silly question.
