    In reply to: Export Not Working

    Since I’m having the same issue I’d like to pick up where thomas left.

    * all plugins disabled
    * theme is Twenty Ten

    content of database:

    mysql> select user_id,meta_value from wp_usermeta where umeta_id = 5\G
    *************************** 1. row ***************************
       user_id: 1
    meta_value: a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;}
    1 row in set (0.00 sec)

    Not only export doesn’t work, but almost everthing done in /wp-admin/ fails except posting. I’m still an administrator, since I can create a new user with administrator-rights, but doing so gives a strange error ‘Cheatin’ uh?’ despite creating a working user (with the same problems as my current account..)

    Any further tips?

    I’ve given up. Scr*w it, and switch to something that works.

    directories == 755
    files == 644

    Yes. No. Maybe.

    There’s no single correct answer. It depends on what your hoster is doing on his webserver. Apache under a separate account with no shared groups, Apache under a separate account with a shared group (‘webusers’ or someting like that) or some form of SUID/SGID hosting. Having a single solution to a question with at least possible correct answers is way too broad from a security-viewpoint.

    Please check your domain-name at dnsreport

    Look for the entry marked ‘SOA REFRESH’. That value will tell you how long other nameservers will keep a cached entry before looking for any changes. Be carefull when entering your domainname. You can do a single free lookup per day, and wasting it on a typo isn’t fun.

    Many hosters use large values, thinking it will reduce the load on their name-servers, but that stupid policy also leads to much pain for their soon-to-be-ex-customers when moving their domain-name.

    ‘Custom write panel’ also comes with a stern warning about its state of development:

    Custom Write Panel version alpha is available below. Though unstable (I suppose, since it hasn’t undergone many test cases), it should be safe to install it.

    We seasoned users and developers do understand how frustrating new versions and changing interface can be, but it’s really not possible even to just notify all the makers of all the different themes and plugins about changes in interfaces they are or have been using.

    Leave comments on the blog-posting announcing the version that is giving you trouble. Others who can fix problems will actually check for new versions before fixing it on their own, read your comment and might share fixes with you.
