  • I had both the NGG Gallery on my Photos page as well as one in my sidebar. I read through all of the posts and here’s what I did:

    1) Upload the JW Imagerotator files to the Uploads folder as prescribed.
    2) Go to Gallery > Options > and at the top click on Slideshow.
    3) Enter the pathname to the imagerotator.swf file or use the auto search option.

The above will set the JW player for your NGG Gallery. However, if you would like to have a rotating gallery in your sidebar, this is what I did and it worked:

    4) Go to Appearance > Widgets
    5) Instead of dragging the NextGEN Gallery “Sidebar” Widget from the left to the right (to activate it), drag the NextGEN Gallery “Slideshow” from the left to the right.
    6) Select your desired options and you should be set!

If I tried to do steps 4-6 using only the NGG “Sidebar” Widget, I could see an image in my sidebar and it would change when I clicked on it, but it wouldn’t auto-rotate. Removing the “Sidebar” widget and adding the main “Slideshow” widget to my sidebar solved my problems. I hope this provides some help for others as well.

PS: Props to Alex and the others who helped make this awesome plugin possible!

I put this on another thread as well.

I tried the Highslide plugin, but it seemed to create more problems. Even if I just activate Highslide, but continue to use the Thickbox option with NGG, I get different problems based on the browser I’m using:
IE 7: most images are displayed with an overlap on the bottom
FF 3: most images are displayed with an offset overlap, with the bottom picture offset to the right. When I close the image and click on the thumbnail again the image shows up fine.
    Chrome: same as Firefox 3.

If I activate the Highslide plugin, and select the Highslide option within NGG, my images simply open up in a separate window in all the major browsers. It’s as though there is no plugin in use at all.

I get similar results with the other plugins such as Lightbox. Keep in mind, I don’t have the Thickbox plugin installed and when I deactivate all the other image plugins, Thickbox for NGG works fine in FF 3.0 and Chrome, but has the same issue with IE7.

    Any suggestions?

Probably a dumb question, but where exactly are these tags located? Also, do I need to download the Thickbox plugin separately from NextGen gallery in order for Thickbox to work properly? The reason I ask is that NGG seemed to work the same before I ever uploaded the Thickbox plugin. I am still getting errors in IE 6 and 7, as well as Chrome since I uploaded Thickbox, Lightbox, and Highslide. I deactivated all of these since I was having more problems, but it seems like things are worse now with NGG than before I started uploaded these plugins.

I will probably set up another page and test out Highslide. Now when you say you reverted back to Thickbox, do you mean that you went back to NGG, or is Thickbox a separate plugin?

I am surprised I haven’t seen more people out there having the same problem that I am with NGG. IE 6 and 7 are very popular and you would think that they would test their sites with those browsers. Then again, it could be a problem on my end (template, site host, etc.). I am not ruling anything out at this point!

Perhaps try aligning the gallery on the right side, as opposed to centering it. You might also try to highlight the gallery text in the page editor and set it to right alignment.

Nice blog. I might give Highslide a try until I hear back from someone on how to fix my problems with NGG. I will also look into trying the clouds tag. Thanks!

The images pull up fine in Firefox, so I don’t think it is a web host problem. Could it be a template problem? I would think that if it were a template problem I would have similar problems in Firefox? Is there some snippit of code that I can add or tweak to get the NGG images to correctly display in IE 6 and 7? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There is a similar problem with the images showing up in Internet Explorer 7. The difference with the issue in IE 7 is that the image appears to be duplicated at the bottom: https://bvlrestoration.org/pictures/

Update to earlier post. The problem also seems to occur in the gallery as well as the slideshow and gallery widgets using Internet Explorer 6.

I have a slightly different problem…not sure if it’s been addressed or not. The singlepic image, when clicked on more than once, appears to be split in half and duplicated – so you can see the bottom half on top and immediately below it is the bottom half. If the page is refreshed, the image will expand as normal when clicked. But if it is clicked on more than once, the same problem occurs. This problem only happens in Internet Explorer and not Firefox.
