In reply to: [NEW] ESBNOk, new version is ready, I’ll start testing it tomorrow. If all goes well, I’ll have a release on Sat or Sun. BTW, they’ve changed their name to Numly, https://numly.com/. I’ll eventually change the plugin name too.

In reply to: [UPDATE] Alexadexalexa is the underlying data for https://www.alexadex.com. The price of the shares and I assume the number of shares available are based off of calculations that the author does on the alexa data. (You have to be tracked by alexa to be able to have a stock price.)

In reply to: [NEW] ESBNI THINK the function I’m using is 2.0, I’m not sure. I’ll ask for testers later this week and we’ll see.
@herold,
Personally, no real advantage. I jsut saw an opportunity to write another plugin and took it. If you take your blogging seriously and want to register your comments, this is an easy way to do it. I’ll leave it up to the ESBN folks (nice guys) to convince you as to why, I’m just a code monkey. ??=C=

In reply to: [NEW] ESBNOh go ahead, get in trouble. What are they going to do fire you? (or did you mean with me?)
Ok, yes, if you are editing the metadata directly you can get rid of the error. But that just changes the display, not the underlying problem.
I have good news and bad news.
The good news is this only seems to affect 1.x installs, all the 2.x installs I’ve tested on (you, mine and ESBN’s test blog) seem to work just fine.
The bad news. I’m prepping a release for this weekend that fixes a couple of problems and also re-does how the options are saved. This version (1.2) will be a WP 2.0+ only version. I am using a function that I know was introduced in 2.0.
Sorry, I hate to lock anyone out but it’s the only wan I can find to accomplish what I want to accomplish.

In reply to: [NEW] ESBN@vkarly,
Hmmmm…this smells familiar. Right before I released, the last bug I fixed was one that was cropping up on ESBN’s test blog. I had to edit the value I received from the system to store correctly.
But honestly, if he’s getting an E040 then the syste isn’t giving us a valid ESNB number because it thinks the username is missing. The number we need to display isn’t in in the meta field yet.
When you say you changed the value, what was it originally and what did you change it to.

p.s. why does anyone use anything but bigint(20) for PKs? Ya gotta wonder.

In reply to: [NEW] ESBNHmmm…the only thing I can think of at the moment is check the capitalization of your username. I don’t know if ESBN is case sensitive or not.
But your case does bring out a bug in wp-esbn. I’ll fix it tonight hopefully. If you don’t get a valid number back, it shouldn’t record it.

In reply to: [NEW] ESBN@moshu and others,
I’ve revised the instructions for this plugin and would appreciate any additional input. The can be seen on the Project Page.
The only part I’m still unhappy with is the last point where the user has to edit the template. Is there a better way to do this?

In reply to: [NEW] ESBN@all,
Points well taken. Moshu, I apologize if I came across a bit brusk, I did take offense at the manner of your first post and I shouldn’t have. (I’m old and set in my ways.) ??
I will start reworking the install instructions for all my plugins tomorrow. It’ll take a while but I will do my best to approach them from the UJ point of view.
Thanks to all of you for helping me understand.

In reply to: [NEW] ESBNhehehe But I like the word tarball. ?? Ok, I’ll review them tomorrow and try and fix them up a bit. How do most people install plugins? (I ssh into the box, wget the tar FILE and untar it right on the server. I guess I just never put any thought into how others did it.
@piggy,
Ty for the kind words. I I visited your site today. It’s very nice. And I love your current thread. Ingenious idea. ??=C=

In reply to: [NEW] ESBNSorry that the instructions were not clear. This is my 6th plugin and that’s the first comment of that nature I’ve had. I will review them and see if I can’t clear them up a bit. In the mean time, if you have specific questions, I’m happy to help.

p.s. FWIW, my development machine is Windows and I almost never use command line tools on Windows. However, there are so many ways to unzip a file on Windows that it’s just easier to use the generic unzip than try and cover them all.

In reply to: [UPDATE] AlexifyCool service. I will add you to my todo list. I’m thkinging that I’ll make you an option on alexify, the user can choose between your service and alexa.
What does your service return if there is no thumbnail on file?
