Wouldn’t the “More images” button then appear as the first image when the lightbox gallery is open? If so, that would obviously look ridiculous. Or is there a way to hide the first image that opens?

It still says get_template_directory_uri in the functions file. Why was it changed and then reverted back to this setting breaking child theme functionality?

How about posting an answer to help others out?

See screenshot below. You can see that in style.css, my child theme’s code is called but the strikethrough shows its being overridden.

Above that is (index):48 – it looks like the parent theme style is called, overridden by my child, and then the parent is called again.

Yes. I had deleted the lines of code while tested. I put the line of code back. Check it again please.
