  • Hi there,
I two am using simple links and loved it. Also have a lot of work in it and am hoping that some one will answer the last two peoples questions. Why was Simple Links depreciated and how should a person go about transfering all the links to a new plug in Link Library.
    Thanks!

In reply to: EZ page ID

Thank you for this! It is exactly what I was looking for. Hey wordpress, How about making this easier for the average Joe that doesn’t know how to look for it. Maybe page id could be shown in the quick edit screen. That would be great for someone wanting to look up the id of a bunch of pages quickly.
Thanks again rmighty1 for your little trick.

    Weird,
It worked on my test site, which was a clone so it should have been the same, but when I did it to my regular site it didn’t work. I tried it both in the css file of my child theme and in the nice little css box that this theme has added to customizer.
    Any ideas?

What if we just want to remove the author’s name?

Do I have to delete the original super admin first before I can give an editor the same name? I can’t see a way to delete that original super admin. Word press will not allow a second user with the same name.

Yes, I have tried it with some users that are not super admin so I see how the transferring of content works. So…tell me if you think this would work in order to keep my main e-mail address for the super admin and keep the content with my original super admin name but make that user (also myself) only and editor.
Make a new super admin using my alternate e-mail. Make a temporary user with a different name and transfer the content to them. Delete the original super admin (now the original e-mail address will be free). Make another super admin with the “regular e-mail” address. Make a new user with the name of the super admin that I deleted before and transfer the content back to them but this time only give that user editor status. I have to say I’m kind of afraid to delete the original super admin….so much is tied to it.
I understand that the hacker is half way there if they have your user name, but in your opinion am I better off leaving it the way it is if I have strong passwords?
    Thanks,

    Hi alchymyth,
Thank you for trying to help me. I see after reading your link and comparing my attempt at a theme to another them that I have that was converted from a standard web page that I may have some work to do to learn this.
    When I wrote this post I had only style.css, index.php, header.php, footer.php & sidebar.php
I have added some other files now like page.php & archive.php that were included in my other theme.
Guilty….I tried to use the automatic theme uploader so now I went into the file manager at my host and uploaded all of the files manually along with the images file that went along with the template.
As I worked with it I feel that the “how to” article that I referenced earlier is for a blank template. Not a website that is already propagated with content. The directions in the article say to copy the code given in the article onto your index page, splitting out the parts that are for the header, footer & sidebar.
I went back now and did it with the original blank template. My understanding is that the actual content will be added later from within word press.
I did have a few mistakes (for other newbies that may be reading along). I named my style sheet style.css and then the css was automatically added so when I looked in my file manager I saw that I had style.css.css
So, now I have it network activated (did I mention that it was a multisite?) but for some reason it’s not seeing the style sheet. I get the plain white page that shows the text and links and stuff, but no style. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong?

An aside, I also tried doing it as a child theme of twentyeleven and I get the same result.

This is for a non profit that I offered to do for free in exchange for them letting me “practice” with their domain name. They are not fully sold on wordpress and they kind of wanted their site to look “the same as before” The original theme had some nice menus and they are kind of “branded” to it. Do you think I would be better off just trying to adapt a default theme using their colors, images and logo?

    Thanks,
    Cathy

Forgive me, this is exactly what the message said.

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

    Hi,

My bad, I did the same thing. Please help.

I am using an unusual theme that I really like. Since it was a free theme I thought I would never need to update it. Now I have a multisite and I would like to use different but similar child themes for some of my different sites…so I do need the kids.

I’m hoping I don’t have to bring my whole site down while I work on this, so this is what I’m thinking of doing. Please tell me if you think this will work of if I am missing something.

I have made changes to a lot of other php files as well as the style.css and I didn’t keep a log (another thing that I plan to do from here on out).

I will change my theme on my active site to twenty eleven while I work on this.

I have already made a folder for my child theme and I understand the code from “making a child theme” that I need to put in the beginning. I will add the @import line for the style sheet. Do I need to add a similar @import line to make it look at the other files?

I am thinking that I can move my entire revised theme into the child theme folder.

Next I would up load the unchanged copy of my parent theme into the main folder for that theme. should it be unzipped?

Then I would change my website back from twenty eleven to my new child theme.

Can anyone see any problem with this thinking?
    Thank you,
    Catrina

I don’t know the correct way to actually fix the problem by correcting the code, but I had the same problem with my theme. I was able to semi solve the problem by making my desired title a h2 instead of an h1. For example on my about page https://www.catrinasgarden.com/about/ The slug and page title is “about” but I wanted the title at the top of the page to be “welcome to my virtual garden”. Making that text a heading #1 I was not able to make it show up at all. When I made it a heading #2 it shows up, but I still have “about” above it. I’d rather remove that, but at least my desired text is there.
    Hope this helps,
    Catrina

    Hi,
I have come a long way in a month. Here’s my website now https://www.catrinasgarden.com.
I never did figure out how to have an alternate header for different pages, something I still might want to do some day, but for now I discovered that it wasn’t really necessary. So…sorry, but I can’t give a solution. The good news is that I have embraced word press and am using it for my entire site rather than trying to integrate it with a static site.
    You can close this ticket.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I just started using marketpress lite on my site and so far like it very much. https://www.catrinasgarden.com . I got some test products entered and then tried to run through a purchasing test. I see that setting up the pay pal is going to be a mindbender for a newbe like me so before doing that I have to make sure that the shipping is going to be okay. The only shipping option that I see besides “manual” is “flat rate” is that correct or is there a way to configure various shipping prices for different items? We are going to have some large heavy items so this will be vital.
Any suggestions how we can solve this problem?
    Thanks,

    I’ll get it eventually.
I got rid of the extra home by editing the header template.
Then I thought why not just put my links to the html pages here. As you can see I don’t understand php. I used regular links like
    <li> <a href="about.html">About Us</a></li>
The words show up in the menu, but I get a 404 message. I bet there is something I have to add to make these work???? Or is there a better way.

    Sometimes I’m slow.
I figured out #4; a blank php page titled blog. But why do I have home in the menu twice? There are only 2 pages in my list of pages home and blog. I’m still working on the other questions.
