• That did it – tyvm thomasg77! ??

Now…onto the other issue – setting this popup to take payment info/deliver digital eBook on completion! ??

Aw crap, my coding here is getting chopped up…

Ok, sorry, guess I misread that…adjusted accordingly, but now getting the blank page…Seems to be a Chrome issue *sigh*

Now for my next challenge – customizing the plugin for a payment mechanism to enter payment info and get the buyer their digitial eBook…

Similar problem – trying to get a short code to load from the red button using Zerif Lite theme. I’ve followed the thread details and tried adding the phph reference the header.php file, as well as the tag in the customization window. The button does show up, but when I click on it, I am getting an error where the site can’t be reached…

I’m inserting the code as follows:
Buy the eBook
But for some reason it’s reverting to inserting %20 for the spaces and removing the a href…

Once I get this popup functionality working, I’d actually like the popup to be a payment window to actually buy the ebook so users don’t have to redirect to another page or anything that takes them away from the main page. Suggestions?

My site is at:

the second line of code in the wp-config was missing (over-deleted lol)

Also in deleting the cache files, it seems the legacy problem of the mobile theme issue has also resolved of its own accord.

Thanks for the assist and walking me through a bit of it…goes to show why I am NOT all that great with WP! LOL

DOH – In my cleanup, I removed too much from the wp-config.php file. Noticed from another website, the sample file always starts with:

<?php
/**

Mine only had:

<?php

Goes to show ya why I’m not a big WordPress guru kinda person! LOL

Ok, so site is accessible again, and it seems my purging efforts for whatever reason of various w3tc and cache folders has done the trick as the correct version is displaying across all browsers again!

Ok, cache folder cleared
site not back
renamed theme folder
site not back
renamed .htaccess file
site not back

I fear now I was a bit over-zealous in my cleansing…suggestions on restoring access?

I don’t have access to the phpmyadmin console nor to the server error logs as I do not own the parent server – a friend does and I’ve not been able to connect with him yet.

Deleted cache folder
Site not back online
cannot get into phpmyadmin
Renamed theme folder
Site not back online
Renamed .htaccess file
Site not back online

Don’t have access to server logs, friend maintains server and is out of town

Next steps?

Well crap – after deleting the cache folder, the website hasn’t come back up since.

I followed the steps provided with the exception of manually re-setting the plugins because a friend hosts the content and I don’t have a psswd for the phpmyadmin to gain access at that level.

So, I re-named the theme folder, and when that didn’t work, renamed the .htaccess file

I don’t have access to the server for error logs though…suggestions?

The 500 error is likely because I found another cache folder that is quite huge, so am going through a shell using WinSCP to delete any folders that might be causing the cached pages to load instead of a live version.

Not sure why deleting cached folders would have this impact, but once all that gobbeldygook is cleaned up, I’ll re-post back in here.

Heh, ok, just sayin’, that would be an option! LOL

Yessir, I did delete the directory. Let me check the wp-config.php file though – one moment, please.

Update: The wp-config.php had the W3TC line at the top – it is now deleted, I cleared the cache in IE, and reloaded the browser (and on mobile devices) but no luck…

Any other ideas?

I used to have one, but deleted it as a suspect plugin (W3C Total Cache)…

I am down to minimal plugins, and have even switched back to the Twenty-14, Twenty-13, and Twenty-12 themes to see if I can get the desktop version to load by default with no results.

I also am noticing in IE that it is loading a mobile theme from using the Developer Tools:

<img src=”https://www.canonblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/mobile-theme.png&#8221; />

By the way, thanks in advance for offering to assist, I am very appreciative of anything you can do to assist! ??

FWIW, if you need a set of credentials, we could even take this off the forums and you are welcome to dive in behind the scenes if you can help…

Thanks for the update Sean…any recommendations for a plugin that would allow shortcodes to work in the widgets?

Interesting, I followed the directions, created the supersecret folder, FTP’d the PHP file into that folder, and trying to hit it via browser (yes, I chmodded the folder recursively to 777), and I get a 403 error:

forbidden

This sucks…

Time to reinstall WP from scratch I guess ??

Thanks Clayton – here’s the extent of what Digital Ocean’s “support”

we offer the one-click applications as a convenience for installing certain popular software, but we don’t have any control over what happens after that point. This is why we’re not able to provide specific SQL commands, know how your database schema and content has changed over time, or perform other maintenance tasks for you. In these situations, the WordPress community may be the best resource as they’re most familiar with the software.

If you’re not as familiar with the command-line or SQL, you could also use something like phpMyAdmin to manage your databases in a web browser. This will along you to search and replace (among many other features) graphically, without having to write out the SQL code. If you’re interested, this is an article[1] that goes into some detail about how to install and secure it.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and we’ll be happy to help.

Bascially – their answer “we’re not touching it”…

So, I am going to give your suggestion of that searchandreplace.php file a try. If that doesn’t clean it up, I may have to rebuild it from scratch on the customer side…*sigh*

All this for the $100 they paid is slowly taking me down to less than minimum wage! LOL

The interesting thing is that there looks to be a typo on a couple links where it should be:
https://104.131.71.124

but is

https:///104.131.171.124

And it’s only in two places on a page that apparently has not had any styles applied to it: (the header and the link to the Home page…)

All else seems to actually be pointing to the right IP address, for the sub pages, except one page (Senior Pictures) which is directing back to the DEV server:

https://104.236.234.241/?page_id=40

And when I try to access the wp-admin console, I get the following in my address bar:

https://104.131.171.124/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2F104.131.71.124%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

With the error: “Not Found

The requested URL /wp-login.php was not found on this server.”

This might be fixable by finding the specific references in the db files, but I have no idea which db files I’d need to touch and how to edit them. The provider is saying “we don’t know the schema, but you can do this in MySQL…”

Tangentially, I find it odd that the VPS provider doesn’t know the schema for an instance of an app that they deployed – does that strike anyone else as odd?
