Discovered the problem!
But to answer your question, inside the dasboard the themes could be switched to current theme. But when the blog was viewed the same theme was there and never changed.
Yes I deleted the wp-content/theme etc.. But… The theme was aparently stored in the browser cache.
Just emptied the browser cache and that solved the problem.
