As requested I created a new post with footnotes
    https://keto4psych.flywheelstaging.com/post-to-test-footnotes/

Footnotes #2 through 9 are fine.
#1 and #11 – 21 are garbled. Weird that the results are a little different.

    Thank you!

Yes, the free version of the theme gives the same errors. I’ve deleted all other plugins & themes on staging and the problem still occurs with the free version of the theme. @nikeo

Should I ask the website host (Flywheel)? I see that your site does not show this error.
Should I try deleting all other posts and pages?

    Appreciate any other suggestions.

In the other thread the theme author ( @nikeo ) is correct. These problems occur for both the free and paid version of the theme. Not sure why that topic was closed.

For your viewing pleasure I’ve set up a copy of the site on a staging server using the free theme. You can see the same post showing the same problems here. [ Link in first post link field ]
Right now that site sets the “identifier” in your plug in to “1,2…10”. In firefox on a mac the numbers appear jumbled. The hyperlinked number is from your plugin. The (1) is inserted manually. If I switch “identifier” to “symbol” then the text hyperlink disappears. So exact same problems as in the theme’s pro version.

If you’d like for me to add you to the back end then send me an email [ email deleted ]. That might make it easier for you to test / recreate the issue. Since I’m not a developer I’d definitely prefer a solution to a hack as well!

    Appreciate the help!

    David,

No it does not. When I choose the first numbers option “1,2…10” then I see the problem as you last observed it. If I choose “01,02…10” then the first digit displays clearly but the others are as jumbled as in the first case. If under “identifier” I choose “symbol” then the footnote does not show a number but rather digits such as “1” “2” etc. without anything obstructing the reader seeing them clearly.

Interestingly when I choose “symbol”, the footnote numbers don’t appear in the text above. I manually added “(1)”, ‘(2)” but you’ll see they are not hyperlinked. In the footnotes the return symbol doesn’t quite take the reader up far enough to see the footnote. I’d have thought that the symbol would appear in the text, but it does not.

If I change the Indicator to “1,2…10” then the numbers do appear correctly in the text with a hyperlink to the appropriate note.

    Thank you!

    @dartiss,
I got a super helpful tip from @andrewfp in this thread

Could you guide me in implementing his suggested work around or update the plugin? I’m not a developer so you’ll need to be specific.

    Thanks so much!

@andrewf9 That was incredibly helpful and insightful. By changing the plugin’s settings to “symbol”, I can now see the numbers, under sources. They don’t show up in the body of the text. However, this enables a manual work around of adding them manually e.g.(1) in the body until the plug in gets fixed. Still superior to their largest competitor.

I’m not a developer so have not yet exactly understood how to implement the fix you described in your second paragraph. I will share it with the plugin author and get back to you if I need further help.

Alternatively, if you could give more detailed directions I’ll definitely try it.

Thanks Nicolas! I reported it to the plugin author first. Since he’s only seeing the error on my site, he asked me to contact the theme author and to keep him posted as well. He also saw the problem with a Firefox browser.

Yes. That fixes it. I’ll report the issue to the theme developer. Appreciate your rapid support. Your plugin will be MUCH easier to use on complicated pages, so I’m hoping our theme (Customizr) can sort it out. They have also been wonderful with support over the years

    Thanks!

    David,
Thanks for such a quick response, especially on Memorial Day weekend! I see the problem with a Firefox browser on a macBook. Slight problems with Google Chrome #1 has an issue & a slight problem with #’s on Safari from a MacBook. On an iphone I see slight problems with numbers on Safari or Firfox.
When you originally viewed the page, I had a written text section with the footnotes, which may have been what you’d seen. I have since removed that section. I can also email you a screen shot.

Google’s “Quality Rater Guidelines” E-A-T Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthinessare Google’s Quality Rater Guidelines, a 160+ page document that Google makes public.

This page gives you a good overview. Here’s Google in their own words.

They emphasize that for YMYL (Your Money Your Life ) websites to rank well, they need to emphasize E-A-T. EAT stands for Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness. (Section 3.2 page 19).

By having quality editors, authors for YMYL sites can reinforce the positive reputation of their site. See section 4.4 Positive reputation and 4.6. For example, a journalist can write the article and then have an editor with an MD or PHD specializing in that topic review it, to the benefit of both. The specialists who are the highest quality editors are often not great writers.

5.0 Highest qualiity pages & 5.1 very high quality main content vs. 6.0 low quality pages 6.1 lacking EAT. In the mean time I’ll check out that plugin.

    Your support is always amazing!
