I had the white screen too but I discovered that some of the wp-includes files hadn’t loaded…. still a blank screen… and that I’d forgotten to copy across the new default theme in wp-content.

Once I did that, in other words, followed instructions, all was well.

Well the bit of the database that I’ve stuffed up is wp-options… so can I just restore that bit do you think?

Okay so taking what you say on board… what if I:

1. backup posts & comments section of current database.

2. restore old backup.

3. restore newly created backup of posts and comments.

What d’ya reckon? That should work… right?

Okay… could I be getting closer…

First of all I deleted my galleries page and discovered that the number of links drastically reduced in number.

Then, I’ve found in the rewrite_rules in wp_options of the database the entry below.

When I delete it – next time I open the file – it’s back.

Which suggests I think that somewhere else there is maybe a bit of nasty code…

Any thoughts?

Oh yes!!! Frightening.

I’ve emailed my host but I’m wondering what to look for to clean it out in the meantime. Any ideas?

What are wrold writable files?

That’s interesting Jeremy, I can’t find a wp-footer file… should it sit under the main wordpress folder?
