The “functionality to enable new self-registering users to have a password generated by this plugin” as well as having password resets utilize this plugin are worth USD¤38.53 (GBP¤30); especially as my site’s audience is primarily older folk and this complexity issue is a huge problem (with respect to getting on-site and making a purchase) and, as yet, the only one keeping us from going live.

I don’t get paid till Thursday. But after that, will you have bandwidth/cycles to burn on this?

Sure enough, disabling all the plugins, then going through and re-enabling only the ones I really needed did the trick.

{I have a sneaking suspicion it was WP-DBManager though, because it was the last one I upgraded before problems started, and it had me change an .htaccess file.}
